Australia A Brief History of Riverstone and District This district formed the north-western corner of the Government stock farm established by Governor King in 1803. In 1810, a land grant of 2,500 acres was given to Lieutenant-Colonel Maurice O'Connell which he called Riverston Farm. Other large land grants went to Walter Lang - Clydesdale; Richard Rouse - Rouse Hill; Samuel Marsden - Marsden Park; John Schofield - Schofields. The first train service started in 1864, changing the name to Riverstone on the first timetable. Ben Richards began the Meatworks in 1878, and after this the town began to develop. A brickyard and saw mills were established, shops and hotels opened. Properties were subdivided and sold as residential lots. In the 1880s churches and the Public School were built. More Information on Riverstone and District can be found at the online exhibition.
