Introducing VOIP Skype and Jajah
is a free, voice over internet telephone,
instant messenger and chat room application
for your computer. It also can handle
webcam video if you are set up for it.
The programme is free and can be downloaded from the site.
It is easy to install. You will need to set up a skype identity similar to what you do on yahoo and so on.
It is cross platform, so works equally well on mac or windows or linux or...
It will work on a dial up at 33 mps or faster and easily on broadband, adsl or...
There are several ways of communicating possible with Skype. Any one of them justifies getting it
1. instant messsaging where you type a message and the other person sees it and responds by typing in real time.
2. instant messaging chat room where up to 50 people can join in typing to oneanother, similar to a IRC chat room
3. free, voice over internet (VoIP ) conversations on the computer.
These need a microphone and sound -
best is a head set with little mike which stops echo and other acoustic feedback loops. They can be purchased at stores like big w or office works or dick smith for as little as $10
These are at hifi sound quality so fun for all and especially great for the hearing challenged such as me.
4. Conference calls VoIP with up to 5 participants who are on skype. for free.
5. Its also great for sending even large files over the net for free, very fast and easy, especially when not using the voice protocol.
6. You can make phone calls to ordinary phones if you purchase credit with skype. These calls are charged at the rate for local calls in most countries. Even mobile calls are cheaper.

While skype can be cheaper, it does best with a computer.
With this system, you can talk using your ordinary phone,
for free to other active jajah users
(means they used it at once least in the last two weeks eg for sms, or to phone a non member at the very cheap rate)
and cheaply to those not signed up or on mobile.
You can ring for both STD or OS (AU5cents per minute, cpm, to non jajah USA phones)
You have to initiate it through your browser
on-line unless you set up your mobile as below.
mobile-mobile 45cpm, mobile-land 25cpm, land-land 5cpm
Similar to skype, you can send sms to others mobile phones
by typing in this page, for AU10cents.
If your mobile phone can handle java or WAP or other internet
connection, then you can use it to set up calls.
Internationally you can use a local phone in place of
your home phone or mobile to connect to a friend in another country at jajah rates.
