Irrelevant Ramblings

A look into the life of someone who is searching for everything without a map.

I don't think that I can become a morning person again... *sigh*... its way too cold to get up before 8am, worse still, I was at a pathology place by 8:30am and having a needle stuck into me to get blood for testing. The most painful part of the whole experience is when you remove the bandage/tape that they stick on the spot =P It was also a fasting (no food) test so I was extremely hungry =(

We're having a mover come over this morning to give a quote as to how much it will be to move everything to the new place, not that we know where we are moving to. That will come later... I'm also not sure whether I will get broadband there, as we may only live there for 6 months or less. *sigh* Back to slow dial-up and waiting 1 hour for a mp3 to download =P

Its amazing how a simple phone call can make you feel a lot better! =)
Hmm... a few things have been happening lately... I'm looking for a place to rent because we just sold our apartment, it just seems so much to do whilst in the middle of other stuff. In addition, I have been trying to organise things for work (which starts next week) without having a car to drive. =( It won't be fixed until the 18/8 or thereabouts which is a major pain in the butt... grr

Nothing much is happening elsewhere, the job thing is still in the works hopefully, I will have to call up and ask about that. Sent my resume to one of my aunties in Sydney as she may be able to find me some work up there. I have to complete my studies here though, so not sure how that would work. Just another opportunity that may come up. Gotta keep hoping I guess... =)

Tuesday, July 29, 2003

Waa... slightly cold... frozen fingers whilst inside my apartment... geez... also spent a bit of time outside (waiting for the tram mainly) and that biting wind... whilst not as strong as yesterday.. completely froze me... *sigh* Got a rental car today so we can actually get to what I need to do in the next few days (accountant, blood test, etc) Feeling a bit better about stuff, seems to be more under control (well, it looks that way, whether it is or not is another matter) and things are progressing.

Monday, July 28, 2003

The main reason that I went to Sydney this weekend was to visit my grandparents. They are getting older so it is probably more important to spend as much time as you can with them. I mean, they aren't going to be around forever.... An uncle and auntie from Canada was also visiting so it was good to see them! =)Their son, my cousin that I grew up with in HK and got married last year is having a baby =) I talked to him this morning and he said... (jokingly of course) "I don't know what I have got myself into" =P

Uni tonight was a bit of a sham... Somehow our lecture theatre got double booked (it was ok last week) and we got pushed out (the other lecturer was a professor and pulled rank on our lecturer) so we had to cram into a tiny theatre somewhere else for about half an hour and then move back... At least he finished on time which is usually impossible for him =P Added to that, it was pouring rain when I left uni at 9pm and got a bit wet coming home.. luckily I had an umbrella =)
Woot, slightly windy on the plane trip back... jumping up and down when we were coming in to land =D Bit disconcerting to some people but it was "cool" Sydney was good, warmer than here for sure =P At uni now so better cut it short.. write more when I get home I guess...

Saturday, July 26, 2003

Off to Sydney in a few hours to visit relatives (mainly the grandparents) so won't be posting for at least a few days, be back on Monday afternoon (with any luck) and going to class pretty much straight after. Maybe post from uni again =D Need to bash/throw/hit something to relieve the stress that I am currently under...
Bleh... have too many things to deal with at the moment... not sure whether I can cope... there's lots to do and not a lot of time to do it in... and I'm going away to Sydney for the weekend... probably at a time that I can least afford it... arrghhh...

Crap =( Crashed the car this morning in the city... stupid guy stopped and decided he wanted to turn right and stopped in both lanes.... I had no where to go... the worst thing is... I only just hit him... slowly, because I had almost stopped in time, then the guy behind me also couldn't stop and smashed into my car, pushing me into the front guy agan, I was sandwiched and the most damage was on my car =( Bleh!

Wet sort of day today... didn't and still hasn't stopped raining yet... I guess we need rain... but does it really have to come down in a few days =P Took the car to be serviced today so had to hang around a shopping area for a few hours... also went for a checkup with the doctor in that time so it wasn't too bad =)

Not sure what I am doing tomorrow, probably call up Felicia who I was meant to see sometime this week but haven't yet... oh.. its also pay day tomorrow =D Lets hope they didn't stuff it up this time =P
Rain... rain and more rain.... let it fill our dams and end the water restrictions =D More later...

Tuesday, July 22, 2003

Hmm, left two messages for a company that is doing graduate recruitment for Centrelink but they haven't returned my calls... they are meant to contact me during this week but said to feel free contacting them. Oh well! It seems its already late in the week, yet its only Tuesday today =P Must be the lack of a job that is making me feel that way

Should do something about that picture on the right, just haven't gotten around to taking any pictures lately and its nice and sunny (but windy) outside... but.. not motivation =(

Monday, July 21, 2003

First night on uni was uneventful, just general stuff... but for some reason, I'm quite interested in the subject as we actually get to play with software (Holos BI software) =) and develop a system for it... wouldn't have thought it as absolutely every other subject that I have done for my masters is business related and not technical in any sense of the word =)
Hmm, at uni early... I'm such a good student (not!) and all ready for the 3 hours that I have ahead =P Its looking ok I guess, no feelings of uncertainty yet... but I'm sure that the workload for this won't be that bad... well... I hope anyways =D Nothing much else today, trying to get at least semi excited that this will be the last semester of uni (hopefully) for ever, but I can't rule that out... ok... it will be the last semester of uni at least for 3 years =P

Sunday, July 20, 2003

Ugh! Weekend is over... *sigh* and its back to normality with uni starting tomorrow, not that I can really say I'm studying, with one subject, 3 hours a week on a Monday night. =P Today I went over to Caroline's house to visit because I hadn't seen her for ages, just nice to chat... we have such a "history" together (no... not as a couple =P) and sometimes its just good to relate to someone who comes from the same area as you (she lives around the corner from where I used to live) and has similar values... Also visited Andy at home and chatted to him for a while

Saturday, July 19, 2003

Hmm, also visited the dentist yesterday so it wasn't such a good day. Well, I didn't have to have any fillings and generally my teeth are pretty good =) Today we went (again) to Box HIll to do asian grocery shopping but we were actually able to find a parking spot this time =P Haven't done much else, still a bit tired (as I woke up early for some reason) after finishing work around 12am last night. Couldn't really sleep properly till about 1am I think, another thing that I have to get, a clock radio so I know what time it is =P
Bleh! Stupid people.... Worked tonight and spent about 45 minutes trying to balance this batch of work from a branch that already has a track record of not doing things properly. Normally it should take at most 10 minutes to balance the work, but this set new records. There was stuff all over the place, in the wrong order and stapled at the back instead of the front, making it impossible to know what was what. Then there were problems like not following the rules and putting cheques in that aren't meant to be there, etc *sigh* So glad that I'll only be working one day a week next week, really have had enough of the frustration (and lack of training) of trying to do the work... =(

Thursday, July 17, 2003

Got the letter of offer for work (I already knew) detailing what I needed to know for the work in August. Got a moderate pay rise as I will be a team leader (some $3/hour) so its all good =) Working in the afternoon, but that is ok I guess. The people there are so nice and everyone seems to get along well, so its actually enjoyable to go there to work! Maybe because everyone is a temporary staff member, so there is not so much of the politics (there is still some) that goes on. After I got my credit card bill today, I think I will need every dollar I make to pay it off =P Plus being back at uni on Monday nights from next week, I will only be working one day a week at the other job, hopefully get some more work (or a full time job!) soonish.

Got lots happening this week and probably trying to organise something for the weekend and also for my birthday... which is like under a month away... another year older (and not wiser) =D

Wednesday, July 16, 2003

Woohoo! Something must be stuffed with the results system.... The results were apparently out at midday Thursday (tommorrow) but I got them anyways! =P

Subject      Grade    Mark
IMS5002       D        77
IMS5026       D       70
IMS5401       D       73

I can't believe that I got 77 for IS security, either my exam was really really good or the major assignment kicked some serious butt =D I'm happy with the other two as well, although I would have liked to get more (of course). Lifts my average up a bit, should be in the 70s now =)
Some people need to learn how to park (and drive)... grrr! Went to have lunch at Mark's Place and was looking for a parking spot. Saw one in Lincoln Square North only for it to be taken by a building contractor coming the wrong way down the street... nevermind... a bit further down there was one, only for it to be so narrow because the truck/ute thing in the next parking space took up about 1/4 of my parking space. Another stupid building contractor working in the place opposite there.... luckily I was able to squeeze into the spot and get out of my car... bleh!

Finalising stuff to get ready to go to the accountant and all the documents are all ready now... looking forward to a big cheque from the tax man =P

Monday, July 14, 2003

Just slightly windy today, and bloody freezing =P Went to have lunch with Felicia today, she resigned from her job because she found a better one... plus she didn't like where she was working at the moment. She is starting in a couple of weeks at the new place, which will be in Dandenong or somewhere down that way. So won't be having lunches with her so often, its too far to travel =P

We had an "old" supervisor at work tonight and she let us all go home (well, all the agency people) at 10pm. It was good as I was getting tired and really didn't want to be there. They (the agency) actually called up at lunch time and asked if I could start at 3pm, which I could of... but again, the motivation to work isn't there =P Holidays are actually almost over, but having one subject next semester bascially means that I'm on holidays anyways =) well, until I get a real job, but I guess I'll keep waiting and hoping! =P

Sunday, July 13, 2003

New look =)... well slightly updated look with the new CSS stylesheet, quite a bit of work involved changing from tables to a predefined layers, but it will be worth it in the long run! I just have to change the stylesheet now if I want to change anything, much better than trying to use blogger or w.bloggar and stuffing around with the template. Still a few bits and pieces to do, but its getting there eventually =) So what do you think? suggestions? new colour schemes?

Haven't done much today, went and bought a new top, it was $20 =P I need some more new tops and probably a new pair of shoes but I guess its just a matter of seeing the right thing and it not being too expensive before I decide to buy it. Maybe that will change with me getting a full time job and all that, spending more when you are earning more... hmmm..

Saturday, July 12, 2003

Just another Friday... Worked again at both places yesterday, nothing really exciting happenned although I found out I filled out the wrong day for the timesheet so I didn't get paid (doh! stupid mistake!)... will get paid for that next Thursday. They paid me yesterday/overnight for the amount that I was owed (meant to be paid Thursday) so everything is happy for now =D I don't think I will be working until August now, although there could be some work in the other office which would be great! =)

Went to Box Hill today to do grocery shopping but ended up driving around for 15 minutes looking for a parking spot, giving up and going somewhere else to have lunch and shop... Its not like we had to go to Box Hill but its good to get the chinese groceries and stuff there. Probably go out tonight but nothing definite yet, probably call up Chris and Nick to see what they are doing...

Thursday, July 10, 2003

Just another day at work... finished a bit earlier as I ran out of things to do (it was pretty boring) but it was only an hour early so decided to go for a bit of a walk near home and took a picture of the sunset (on the right) this evening =) It was a bit cold though, the wind picked up a bit this afternoon.

Only got paid for some of the work, but it all didn't add up.. They "found" the timesheets for the past 2 weeks today (they were meant to have been submitted to the finance department on Monday) so not sure when I will get the money for that. The other work also didn't pay me for one day's worth of work last week, but I have to wait for the pay slip to be sent to me to find out whether or not that is true (well, its a lot less money than I was expecting from them, so I guess it is a mistake).

I have work lined up now for August, working again at Camberwell. It will be in the afternoon/evening and they agreed to let me go to uni when I need to. I would have been working during the day, but they gave me a "promotion" to be a team leader (with a pay rise =P) so I have to work the afternoon shift. Thats ok, still allows me time during the day to do stuff =)

Wednesday, July 09, 2003

More work for the needy =P Worked today at Camberwell and working there again tomorrow. Its also pay day tomorrow... and its pay from both my work places so all the more better =D It not like I have anywhere to spend the money, but I guess its still good, probably use it to pay off all the stuff that I have bought recently at the sales... but there should be some left over to buy some more stuff.. lol =) Been talking to an ex-manager of mine and hopefully, if the cards fall right, there could be a job for me in IT... I'm not getting my hopes up, but at least things are still progressing on that front, slowly, but still moving and not a dead end at least.

Tuesday, July 08, 2003

A few things happening at the moment which will hopefully be for the better =) Working tomorrow at Camberwell again but not sure for how many days, but each days work brings in money, so that has to be a good thing =D A renewed sense of "trust" has been "established" at my other work, with them keen on me doing more of the advanced work that they were training me for (until I made that mistake.... let's not talk about it here) which was apparently nothing, but I'm guessing it was more than they are letting on. Oh well...

Went and changed the locks today as we found out that a person who isn't meant to have a master key for all the apartments has one... he is not in a position of authority and doesn't require the sort of access that the master key gives (all locks including all doors to ALL apartments) Still have no idea why/how he got the key, so we thought it was better to change the lock to be off that master key. It was only $22 so for the peace of mind that it brings, its nothing!

Sunday, July 06, 2003

Been dabbling with a new layout with a better CSS to get rid of all these tables that I have now to make this page. Found it at Glish.com which is a pretty nifty site =) A preview of the works in progress is here. Probably won't be the final layout but it will be something close to that...
Back to normality, or somewhat close to it =) MY room has been reclaimed and is now a study again, where I can have access to all the files and stuff that I might need. My bedroom is now a much better place, without stuff everywhere because I have no where to put it. We ended up not repainting as some cleaning stuff my mum used actually did quite a good job of removing the glue and other crap that was on the walls.

Had lunch with Enrica today at the Docklands... It was nice, although a bit windy, and there weren't too many people around but enough to make the place not look dead. =P Catching up is good also, things happen and its nice to know what is going on in each other's lives to put a new perspective on your own. =)

Saturday, July 05, 2003

So I'm bored =P

You are Debian Linux. People have difficulty getting to know you. Once you finally open your shell they're apt to love you.
Which OS are You?

Bleh, blogger keeps telling me that I have no space left on the device of the server which hosts my webpage, I already removed stuff off there last time, so I think it must be the entire server that is full, not my allocation... I don't have that much stuff on there... time for a support ticket I think with the host (my ISP) or maybe its time for IrrelevantRamblings.com? =D
Good news! I got a letter from the tax office yesterday which could mean I can claim some tax that I paid last financial year (not that I paid a lot) back. Its always good to get money back from the tax office =) Something to do with the view the tax office took on tax deductions on some loans that I have for my post-grad studies. My accountant forwarded the letter to me with "Good news" on the top so I must get something from it =D Just waiting for the "Payment Summary" to arrive from the different jobs that I have had before I go and see my accountant to do my tax. People ask me why I go to an accountant to do it when you can file a self claim thing (its only $35 or something doing it through my accountant) but I think I just want to be able to claim everything that I am eligible to claim *legally* so I most likely won't get audited =P

Other stuff that has been happening recently... Worked during the day yesterday, and my other job at the bank in the evening, so was pretty stuffed after a while. After leaving the first job, I went to look at the clothing store Suburban (I saw it earlier during lunch but didn't have time to go and look in) which was a clearance/specials store. I bought a pair of pants for $20 =) I was actually looking for some tops to buy but all the ones they had weren't that appealing to me =P Hopefully doing a couple of days more of work there next week so maybe go back, or some of the other stores that are around there.

Going back another day =P (Thursday), I worked (again) and then went to Chris' house to fix his computer. Well, more of just making his P2P programs work properly =P He had put the firewall, the default Windows one =( on and it blocked too many ports... and even if you turn it off, it doesn't actually unblock the ports... that wasn't too good, so after fiddling around with it, we got it to actually work. Now I know why many ISPs recommend that you don't use the Windows one =D

Today, so far, I've been shopping at Box Hill for groceries, etc. Don't think I will do anything much this weekend, maybe catch up with Nick if I can get into contact with him, he's probably off in the country somewhere either doing work experience (he is going to be a vet at the end of next year) or holiday in NSW.

Wednesday, July 02, 2003

A day at work, pretty easy as its basically just sitting there and pulling stuff out that needs to be pulled, also some sorting and moving stuff, all in a days work! Even got my own room which has a window (and a bit of a view of the skyline) so its all good! =) I think I will go back for more money (uhh... work) tomorrow =P They want me to go in on Friday and possibly Monday as well. Have to see about Monday but Friday I have to go work at my other work, so I will leave a bit earlier from there.

Have a problem withmy computer though, if I try to play video files when using the analog connection to the video card it doesn't show, but its perfectly fine on the digital connection. The problem with the digital connection is that if I have a password on the XP account, the monitor doesn't pick up the signal and goes to power save (off)... stupid problems that don't really affect anything, just annoying.

Tuesday, July 01, 2003

Just had a call from the manager of the office in Camberwell asking if I would be free for work tomorrow and Thursday. Pleasant surprise and gives me something to do with my holidays, not much else happening, apart from someone finally coming back to take their stuff away... was meant to be moved over the weekend but at least its finally going, rather than sitting here for another 2 weeks taking up space.

Mum's birthday today so we're going out to dinner. Other celebrations include Canada Day, Hong Kong SAR re-unification day so lots of people *should* be celebrating as well, although recent events may have put a dampener on that. To a better year ahead! =)
Yay, worked tonight at the usual job, just normal... but it was the end of financial year which made it extremely busy. Finished at 11:30pm.... which would be about normal for a Friday I guess, not *too* bad... I found out that I had made a big mistake (apparently, I can't even remember that) which stuffed something up for a customer, oh well...

Dropping Eliza off at the airport tomorrow, off home for 3 weeks. Want to catch up with Chris sometime this week as well and do a few other things that I haven't done... and that includes (yes... to some person) changing the photo on the right hand side... when I get around to taking another one! =P
