Welcome to Astrology on the Web!

It's great to see you here at Astrology on the Web. The first thing you'll need to do: add us to your favorites right now before you forget. There's no way you'll absorb everything we have to offer in just one visit... There's new material each and every week!

Go to Top Mother's Day. The earliest known tributes to mothers date back to the annual spring festival the Ancient Greeks dedicated to the great goddess Rhea, wife of Cronus and mother of the Olympians. These celebrations were mirrored in the offerings ancient Romans made to their Great Mother Goddess, Cybele. Ceremonies in her honour began some 250 years before the birth of Christ. We have done our research and brought you the fruits thereof! Read more about the origins and purpose of Mother's Day.

Go to Top Oracle of Bitter Truth. The Master of Complaint is suffering somewhat, due no doubt to the impending competition in the spiritual stakes from the impending Wesak Festival. And all just after Easter and the general focus on other lordly beings... Naturally enough the Cosmic Worm has not quite turned, so the Master has not yet delivered all. But there are some, there are some... Read your Monthly HorrorScopes and tremble -- with laughter!

Go to Top Wesak Festival! In his latest illuminating article, Malvin Artley reveals the subtle meanings inherent in the Full Moon in Scorpio, which is also the Wesak Festival, the most important festival in the Buddhist calendar. This, the Taurus Full Moon (due to the fact that the Full Moon always falls in the sign opposite the sign in which the Sun is found) is also a Lunar Eclipse. Powerful forces are at work on the hidden planes, as the consciousness of the world strives towards the attainment of a higher level. Read more about the Wesak Festival.

Go to Top Transit of Venus. This year we'll experience a once-in-a-lifetime rare astrological and astronomical event. Approximately every 121 years, the planet Venus moves between the Sun and our line of vision so that Venus passes directly across the face of the Sun. The Venus Transit of June 2004 during the Venus Retrograde phase is a rare cosmic event that this year is laden with spiritual significance. Richard Giles examines this remarkable phenomenon. Read more about the Transit of Venus.

Go to Top Aries Solar Eclipse. Our esoteric astrologer, Malvin Artley, reveals the meanings inherent in the solar eclipse in Aries, followed by the lunar eclipse that precedes the Wesak Festival. This eclipse comes at what might be called a "Blue New Moon", since there are two New Moons in Aries this year. Aries is the sign of new beginnings and the start of a new life, which is the symbolic meaning of the Christ, so this continues his train of thought on the Christ Festival. Read more about the Aries Solar Eclipse.

Taurus, the Bull Go to Top The Blazing Bull! Practical, reliable Taureans are great lovers of sensual pleasures, although they do tend to be rather stubborn, possessive and conservative. Firmly anchored in the material world, they have a fine grasp of what is needed in order to lead the good life. Taurus, the Bull, our featured Sign of the month is attractive and magnetic. Taureans have personal magnetism and are able to draw others into their circle, rather than actively seeking them out. In other words, while they are very fond of members of the opposite sex, they prefer to be courted. Read about Taurus and all the other signs right here on our website: click here.

Go to Top Easter. The Easter Season marks the most important ritual celebration in the Christian Church. It celebrates the passion, crucifixion, death and entombment of the Lord Jesus Christ, followed by his resurrection and return to a new life. This central point of Christianity has been recently celebrated in the sensational Mel Gibson movie The Passion of the Christ. But there is more to Easter than meets the eye! Many ancient religions also celebrated the death and resurrection of their god. Much of the symbolism associated with these earlier stories has been incorporated into the Christian Festivity. Read more about Easter.

Go to Top Master of Complaint. Once again, Asperitus, Oracle of Bitter Truth, has fallen into his old ways and is a little tardy with some of his prognostications for the month - no doubt due to the Equinox and impending sacred season. Still most signs are now on line and everything will be in order soon as we enjoy the apprehensions of Awful April! Read your Monthly HorrorScopes.

Go to Top Eclipse Season The eclipse of the Sun has been traditionally viewed with dread over the ages, as the great giver of life seems inexplicably to disappear from the sky. Birds prepare for bed; the sky darkens in the middle of the day. It seems as though something dreadful is about to happen. In any case, old things come to an end (or are overthrown!) under a solar eclipse and a new beginning can be made. The solar eclipse on April 19, 2003 occurs in Aries, the sign of the Ram. This will particularly affect people with cardinal signs strong in their charts (the cardinal signs are Aries, Libra, Cancer and Capricorn). Read more on the coming Eclipse.

Go to Top Is Medical Science Good Enough? When manufacturers of any kind of product refer to it as being backed by "science", take it with a pinch of salt. For example, according to Richard Smith, editor of the British Medical Journal, the public is being regularly deceived by the drug trials funded by pharmaceutical companies, loaded to generate the results they need, (The Guardian, January 14, 2004). Stephen Kane looks at how environmental energies really affect us, rather than the limited ways in which they are addressed by "scientific" studies. The Energy Doctor features remarkable notes from Stephen Kane's casebook. Read the latest from the Energy Doctor.

Go to Top The Christ Festival In his latest outstanding article, Malvin Artley looks at the esoteric (hidden) meanings inherent in the current Full Moon in Libra, the Christ Festival. This potent Full Moon is the Full Moon for Aries (since the Moon is always full when in the opposite sign to the Sun). Aries is the sign of new beginnings and the start of a new life, which is the symbolic meaning of the Christ. There is a veritable feast of opportunities for inner growth on offer this year, starting with the Aries festival. Following quickly on the heels of that is a blue new moon (there are two new moons in Aries this year) which is also an eclipse, presaging the major eclipse of the Wesak Moon in May. All the naked-eye planets have been visible in the night sky of late, which means we are all getting to have a very good look at our personal lives, and a new 8-year cycle of Venus starts in June just after the Festival of Goodwill—a very good omen indeed. Read more on The Christ Festival.

Go to Top April Fool! On April 1, we celebrate the role of the Fool, with tricks and surprises played on friends and family. This custom has a surprisingly long history, as the Fool stands in contrast to the King as the lowest and highest in hierarchical powers. The fool, jester or clown occupies the humblest place in the court and symbolizes the forces of chaos and license, while the king represents those of law and order. Read more April Fool.

Go to Top Venus Transit Chat On June 8, 2004, the planet Venus will pass across the disc of the sun for a period of about seven hours and serve as a symbol of the unification of the masculine and feminine. The Harmonic Concordance was an important opening and now, with the Venus Transit of 2004, Humankind and Planet Earth are poised to make the next momentous shift into unity consciousness. Join Dr. Carl Johan Calleman, world renowned expert on Quetzsalcoatl and the Mayan Calendar for a free on-line chat to learn more about the Venus Transit of 2004. On line chat happens April 3, 2003 1:00 pm Eastern Time (US). Read more Venus Transit Chat.

Go to Top Feng Shui Applied! Feng Shui, which literally means wind and water, is the ancient Chinese art of creating positive energy. It is fast becoming a popular way to create ideal work and home environments. Ashish Aggarwal, a leading practitioner, explains that Feng Shui is the "Art of Placement", for it balances the life energies, or chi, in a living space. Using simple "cures", it increases the flow of positive chi and subdues the negative flow. And according to the theory of Feng Shui, harmonizing our personal chi with the chi in the environment puts us in harmony with the natural world. Read more on Feng Shui.

Go to Top Mercury Retrograde. On April 6th, 2004, Mercury turns retrograde again, sending communications, missed appointments, mail and the www into a general snarlup! This awkward period begins a few days before the actual turning point (as Mercury slows) and lasts for three weeks or so, until April 30.
It finally straightens out on May 18, bringing things back to normal. Mercury turns retrograde three times a year, as a rule, but the effects of each period differ, according to the sign in which it happens. This year, again, Mercury turns retrograde four times. How confusing! Check out Mercury Retrograde.

Go to Top What is Feng Shui? Human beings are subject to subtle energies that influence our attitudes, behaviour and health. These energies can be controlled and redirected for our benefit in our environment, whether at home or at work. The study and implementation of this art is called Feng Shui, which means "wind and water". By balancing subtle energies (chi) in our surrounding environment, Feng Shui seeks to harmonise the elements of nature based on directional principles, seasons and colours. Uma Shankar gives us a brief overview. Now read more about Feng Shui.

Go to Top Venus Retrograde On May 17, 2004, Venus reaches her retrograde station, in preparation for a period of retrograde motion which will last until June 29th. On top of that, the effects of the retrograde period will continue to be felt until she returns in direct motion on August 2 to the degree where she first made her station (26° Gemini 08'). Venus turns retrograde only once every eighteen months, but the effects of each period differ, according to the sign in which it happens. In the case of this particular period, there are some interesting features that will intensify the astrological effects of the phenomenon: Venus turns retrograde in partile opposition to the Galactic Centre and in conjunction with her own planetary node.
There is also a rare transit of Venus on June 8, 2004, when Venus crosses the face of the Sun. This is one of those periodic astronomical events that could never have been observed by any human alive today. The previous transit of Venus occurred on December 6, 1882 - one of merely five events of its kind ever watched by mankind. Check out Venus Retrograde.

Go to Top The Equinox. The Equinox is the time when the Sun reaches the balancing point in its path through the zodiac. It marks the beginning of the new astrological year, as the Sun enters the first degree of Aries, the Ram. It happens on the night of March 21. This major calendrical event is the focus of religious and social festivities in all cultures, not just the Christian celebration of Easter. Read more about the Equinox.

Go to Top The Plumed Serpent. In this the second article in our powerful series on the Return of the Energy of Christ and of Quetzalcoatl, Carl Johan Callesman, one of the world's leading authorities on the Mayan Calendar, proposes that Quetzalcoatl, the ancient Mexican deity, is a true saviour figure. He argues that there could well be a divine plan revealed in the Mayan Calendar, which comes to fruition in the near future. Now read more about Quetzalcoatl, the Plumed Serpent of Mexico.

Go to Top Saturn Turns Direct. Saturn, the grim taskmaster of the zodiac turns direct today (Mar 7, 2004) after his regular annual period of retrograde motion. Every year, this retro period lasts for several months and affects all people to one degree or another, depending on where the stationary periods occur in their personal birthcharts. Saturn has been retrograde in Cancer, the sign of his detriment, so it has been especially grim for those who have their Sun, Moon, or Ascendant in the first half of Cancer, notably between 13° (where this major planetary force turned retrograde) and 6°, where he has returned to direct motion. This restrictive and fustrating energy particularly applies to US President George W. Bush, whose natal Sun is at 13° Cancer (just where Saturn turned retrograde on October 25, 2003). Bush's Saturn is also in Cancer, so he is beginning to undergo his second Saturn Return, the important time when he must clear out old karmic debris in preparation for a major new phase of his life. This retro period marks the beginning of the stage wherein he must (hopefully) achieve wisdom. Read more about Saturn, and then check retrograde planets.

Go to Top Auspicious Day. Sri Siva (pronounced Shree Sheewa), a leading Vedic astrologer and guru, has advised us that, using Vedic sidereal astrology, this Friday (Mar 5, 2004) the Moon will be conjunct with the star Magha (Regulus) in the constellation of Leo. Magha is the star of Rulers. Jupiter, the Guru of the planets, will also be in Leo (Vedic astrology is sidereal, not tropical like Western Astrology, so the signs are different, but the aspects are the same). The sidereal Sun is in Aquarius and both the Moon and Jupiter are aspecting the Sun. This combination takes place only once in 12 years and is the most auspicious time for spiritual awakening and renewal of the earth plane. Many traditions recognize the sanctity of this day. Buddhists, Hindus and Taoist celebrate this day as "Poornima Holi", Full Moon Holy Day, and also as Magha Pooja among the Buddhists, celebrating the Buddha's higher teachings to his awakened disciples. Rituals performed on this day are especially powerful. Pooja will be performed in India to Siva, who is the overlord of both the Sun and Jupiter. Friday, March 5th, coincidentally is one of only 5 auspicious days in 2004 for the Dancing Siva.

Go to Top The Festival of Salvation. In his latest article, Malvin Artley looks at the meanings inherent in the current Full Moon in Virgo, the Festival of Salvation (or the Festival of the Risen Christ). This subtle and inspiring Full Moon is the Full Moon for Pisces (since the Moon is always full when in the opposite sign to the Sun). Pisces is very much the sign of Salvation and Redemption. This article looks at the role of Pluto, the great healer, the esoteric ruler of Pisces, in the process of self-realisation.

Go to Top Great Gods & Little Fishes!. Yea and forsooth! For the first time in living memory, the Master Asperitus, Oracle of Bitter Truth, has delivered not one, not two, but ALL signs more than a week early! The mind boggles and the underworld freezes over... Pinch yourself and check out your frightful future with Asperitus, the Master of Complaint.

Go to Top Friday 13! Hmmm. Friday the thirteenth is here again! Are you taking any chances on this day of fright and fear? If so, you are clearly not superstitious. Most people think Friday 13 is an unlucky day, but why?? Rob Tillett examines the history and origins of this curious belief. Check out Friday 13.

Go to Top Thy Will Be Done... Ram Ramakrishnan examines the proposition that the study of Astrology would point to a scenario where martyrs (as well as oppressors) - have no choice in their actions. This article concludes that it would be easy to state that both behavioural patterns are products of the divine Will, or in astrological nomenclature - destiny. Then who is wrong and who is right? Who is to be punished and who is to be rewarded? Where does the buck stop? Check out Thy Will Be Done.

Go to Top Sick Medicine! Stephen Kane reveals the true effects of the modern "miracle drug", Modafinil (ProVigil). This is supposed to do away with our need for sleep, thus making us able to cram more into our overloaded lives. However, the true energetic consequences have not yet been examined by science. The Energy Doctor features remarkable notes from Stephen Kane's casebook. Read the latest from the Energy Doctor.

Go to Top Uranus in Pisces. Neil Giles examines the changing patterns of the world in the light of the transit of Uranus into Pisces. This transit will have a profound influence on the cultural lives of all passengers on the great ship we call Planet Earth. Uranus is the planet of upheavals and of genius, while Pisces is the sign of the seeker, diving deep in the vast ocean of unconsciousness. This change of sign from eccentric Aquarius to mystic Pisces presages a major shift in our awareness and the events of our lives. Now, read on... with Uranus in Pisces.
