3 January 2002
Royal Mail Steam Packet Company

160th anniversary of the Company's first mail ship departure from Falmouth, England. 3 January 1842

Celebrating the anniversary

The Royal Mail Association has marked this anniversary by, among other things, arranging with the British Post Office for a commemorative hand-stamp cancellation for the benefit of the Association's members and philatelists.

The date of 3 January 2002 represents the precise day, 160 years on, when the first RMSP ship left England with mails on board.

Thanks to Terry Lilley for providing much support for the 160th Anniversary feature.
