Community Computers - refurbishing computers for the community

Community Computers is closing down on 31 August 2007

After almost four years of providing a near full time service to the community in supplying low cost/free refurbished computers, we have taken the decision to scale back the operation. This has been made necessary because of economics - even though the computers are donated to us, it is not free to provide a refurbished computer. The costs include, labour to rebuild computers, admin fees for Microsoft licences, costs of anciliary equipment such as modems, to connect to the internet, rental of premises and the other costs of operation. We thank the Salvation Army Employment Plus, Uniting Care Wesley Port Adelaide and DEWR for their support of the Project over the last 3 and a half years and also the many work for the dole participants who have worked with us to produce the computers we supplied to you.

However the parent group of this Project is continuing on, to provide a similar although very much part time service to the community. The ACS PC Recycling Group, a Special Interest Group of the Australian Computer Society, the Society for ICT practitioners, will continue to provide support for the computers you have received from us in the past and for those that will be provided in the future by them.

The ACS PC Recycling Group will be located at 642 South Road, Glandore, and its hours of operation will be tuesday evening between 6pm and 8.30pm and an occasional weekend.
