Carried out a Red Team review for the successful Team Australia bid for Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) services for RAAF project AIR 5077 (Advanced Early Warning and Control Aircraft). Provided management and technical advice to the RAAF on the F111C Automated Avionic Test Equipment Replacement (ATE-R) program Provided system and test engineering services to Raytheon Australia (through SYDAC) in connection with the Collins Class Submarine Combat System. Provided technical services to the RAN regarding Collins submarine sonar and sensor equipment performance (through Raytheon and SYDAC). Provided systems engineering services to the Department of Defence on an Improved Defence Asset Management System. Provided team contract services to DSTO for the Analysts Detection Support System, an image processing super-tool.

Employed by Thorn EMIE and AWA Defence Industries in a variety of roles as the Advanced Studies Manager. Duties have involved the following activities.
Establishment of Computer Aided Design tools at Salisbury. Leadership of the bid team for the AWA Defence Industries Kariwara bid. Conduct of company funded R&D into seismic surveillance. Marketing of the Fast Time Acoustic Analysis System (FTAAS) for the P3C Maritime Patrol in North America, Europe and Asia. Project management of the company funded Shearwater Acoustic Processor research and development program. System design and proposal activities associated with Underwater Acoustic Surveillance for the Asian market. Bid and proposal preparation for Underwater Surveillance and Electronic Warfare group.

Spent nearly two years at the most senior engineering level in the DSTO. In this time was Staff Engineer to the Director of the Advanced Engineering Laboratory, Principal Engineer, Engineering and Technology Support and Staff Engineer to the Director of the Electronics Research laboratory. Duties in these positions included the following.
Recruitment and appointment of cadet, graduate and experienced electronic and mechanical engineers. Policy development and formulation. Corporate planning. Direct management of 350 engineering, technical and drafting staff. Provision of advice on Laboratory matters to the Directors of Laboratories. Participation in Laboratory policy committees.
In January 1988 was attached to an external committee from private industry, set up by the Chief Defence Scientist, to advise him on the restructuring of engineering support services in DSTO. Acted as secretary of this committee.
Group and project management. Staff recruitment. Supervision of University research at the University of Adelaide. Management of a $1.6M project for the RAAF to develop a Laser Target designator for the Mirage fighter/bomber. Conduct of a study for the RAAF on Automated Test Equipment (ATE) for the FIIIC bomber. Research and Development into control system theory and practice.

In 1980 and 1981 was a team member of the RAAF/DSTO team that selected the F/A-18 as Australia's new tactical fighter. In 1982 was a member of the RAN/DSTO team that selected the Seahawk as the RAN's Destroyer ASW helicopter.
