Project 7: Asian Styled Lantern With Light
This week's project is a simple Asian Styled lantern. There are 2 versions of the lamp that you can make - the simple 4 prim version, or the 6 prim version with a lamp bulb insert. While I originally planned to include the lamp bulb and light fixture in the class samples, I decided that we can get the same effect with just the 4 prim version.
Feel free to build which ever version you prefer.
Prim 1
Rez a cylinder.

- Name = Lamp Base
- Object Tab:
- Size: X = 0.270, Y = 0.270, Z = 0.050
Prim 2
Shift-Copy Prim 1 upwards
- General Tab:
- Name = Lamp Body
- Object Tab:
- Change Building Block Type to Sphere
- Object Tab:
- Size: X = 0.500, Y = 0.450, Z = 0.450
- Rotation: X = 0.00, Y = 90.00, Z = 0.00
- Hollow: 95.0
- Dimple: B = 0.200, E = 0.800
Prim 3
Shift-Copy Prim 1 upwards
- General Tab:
- Name = Lamp Top
Prim 4
Shift-Copy Prim 1 upwards
- General Tab:
- Name = Lamp Handle
- Object Tab:
- Size: X - 0.300, Y = 0.250, Z = 0.010
- Rotation: X = 0.00, Y = 90.00, Z = 0.00
- Object Tab:
- Path Cut: B = 0.250, E = 0.750
- Object Tab:
- Hollow: 95.0
Align Prims
- Lower the Lamp Body prim till it just touches the Lamp Base Prim
- Lower the Lamp Top prim till it just touches the top of the Lamp Body prim
- Lower the Lamp Handle prim till it is slightly buried inside the Lamp Top prim
Texture Lamp Base, Top and Handle
Its time to get rid of that plywood texture for the Lamp Body prim!
Select the Lamp Base, Lamp Top and Lamp Handle (and Light Fixture) prims via the Shift-Click method.
- Texture Tab:
- Texture = Blank
- Colour = Black
- Shininess = Low
Add Light Features to Lamp Body
- Features Tab:
- Tick Light Feature
- Select Light colour = Red or any colour you like
- Intensity = 1.000
- Radius = 5.000
- Falloff = 0.750
Add Texture to Lamp Body
- Texture Tab:
- Texture = Shoji2
- Repeats per Face Horizontal (U) = 3.000
- Vertical (V) = 1.000
- Texture Rotation: 90.0
- Texture Tab:
- Colour = Red (or match it to light colour you selected from Features Tab)
Link Prims
Select all 4 or 6 prims and press CTRL + L or CMD + L (Mac) on your keyboard to link all the prims.
- General Tab:
- Name = Asian Styled Lantern
Take your lamp into Inventory.
