Examinations in Scottish Country Dancing for Young Dancers

In 2004 the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society implemented its own system of Medal Tests for Young Dancers.

Previously the Society had developed a syllabus for the International Dance Teachers Association and young dancers sat for examinations controlled by that body, but with the original syllabus having been revised and new procedures established the R.S.C.D.S. now has its own international system.

The Scottish Country Dance Society in Darwin has an accredited assessor for the R.S.C.D.S. medal tests who is also an examiner for the IDTA examinations.   The very first examinations world-wide under the new award system took place in Aberdeen in mid 2004, and the second were held here in Darwin in November of that same year.

The syllabus covers an Introductory Award plus 5 Grades, in each of which dancers must select three out of six alternative dances offered.

Full details are available on the R.S.C.D.S. home page.
