It was going to be a tough game with us and
them sharing the strongest midfields in the league, and at
the end of the day, they were just too strong for us. In all
honesty, they outplayed us with skill and speed more than
aggressiveness. I think we were only able to stay in
the game when we did due to our brilliant defensive work and
their inaccurate kicking.
Unfortunately, we lost for partly
the same reason. I was getting really pissed everytime I saw
us get an opportunity to send the sherrin forward only to
see no-one there to grab it or poor Tredders surrounded by
3 Lions players ready to pounce such was our defensive game.
So the first half was looking
really good and me and Con were scaring the kids everytime
we scored a goal with our whoops of delight. Thankfully the
Lions kicked shockingly or else it would have been curtains
after the first quarter so we kicked 6 goals straight to their
1 goal 14 or something like that. Really bad.
Then came the 2nd half and we
were just not in it. We made stupid mistakes under pressure
and just went for the bomb forward to nobody because all our
guys were in the back. Their midfield just tore us apart and
with inspirational performances from Akermanis, Black and
Scott, they were on their way. Carr did a brilliant job of
shutting down Voss to the point he was wrestled to the ground
in a headlock out of frustration. Naughty boy. Choco's spray
at 3 quarter time didn't seem to the do the trick and it was
all over. Lost by 32 points.
So we meet Hawthorn at Footy Park
next Saturday night and, if we win, Essendon at the "G" for
the Preliminary the following week. Sweet Jesus! Lord, Jesus,
hep me Lord Jesus. Carn the Paaaaaaa!
Highlight:
1) Burgoyne's over the shoulder snap for goal
in the 2nd half. Carr niggling Voss to the point of being
wrestled down to the ground in a Shanghai Strangle.
Lowlight:
1) The whole second half
