The Mighty Port Adelaide Football Club
Round 10
V
Hawthorn
10.13 (73)
Port Adelaide
17.14 (116)

2nd on the ladder. 8 from 10. Just too good. When I saw Matty on TV saying he will start on Saturday, I though, "Oh, yeah, bit of ducks and drakes here" in light of the Rehn situation at Hawthorn. I knew Crawford and Chick were gone but Rehnny was a bit of an unknown. And then Matty played practically the entire game. WHAT A SUPERSTAR, WHAT A CAPTAIN ! The game was a real running one with a lot of opportunities made by the use of running into spaces by both teams although our ability to clear the centre was a big plus. Some stupid frees played into their hands but the last half blitz really did it where it counts.

Everyone put in but there were some lacklustre performances as well that need to be addressed. I think Brayden Lyle is a great player but lately, very inconsistent and Chad just didn't cut it today. On the other hand, the centres and half forwards did some really great stuff. I especially enjoyed Stuey's 40m run right along the line into goal for another 6 points during the 3rd Q ?.

A great performance against a good team at the MCG so it's great to see we're getting rid of the MCG hoodoo of the past. It was interesting to hear the 7 commentators talking about the "Essendon factor" where teams beaten by the Dons don't come back the following week. Thankfully, our Broocey said "Except Port Adelaide who beat the Crows by 65 points the next week!" Get that up ya jumper !!

Highlight:
1) Nick Stevens' inspirational running and creation of space. 2) The look on his face when Matty was just about to smash the ball into the umps face when he was given no free after being crunched and slapped by 3 Hawks players.

Lowlight:
1) Chad's poor form. 2) Tredders missing a goal from 30m out... again!
