JAYSUS!!! 43 Goals and a bloody good game of
footy with some thanks to the illustrious Burgoyne brothers
who tore it apart with 11 goals between the two of them. We've
now won 6 on the trot for the second time in club history
too!
I am so excited by the fact that the team is
still full strength, touch wood, and that we can rotate like
buggery and still have a great game. We were 4 points off
our highest score and with due credit to Western BUlldogs,
they certainly would have beat the bottom 12 of the ladder
with their performance.
It was a beautiful day with not a cloud in the
sky but it did get a bit chilly towards the end when the sun
started to dip behind the members stand.
The Power made some beautiful plays out of the
middle with less influence from the big ruckmen and more from
the crumbers like Francou who was amazing some times when
you saw the centre bounce and thought, "Where the hell's
the ball gone?" and suddnely Josh is flying out of the
pack with the ball in his hands. Magic. We couldn't help laughing
at Libber standing Matty Primus for a while. He looked like
a big baby with their white away shorts making him look like
he was wearing a nappy. What a freak.
Some of our running players ran their legs off
and I can't say how much Roger James and Adam Kingsley impress
the shit out of me when they get on a run and bounce the ball
50 million times then feed it to one of our forwards. Dew
did the same with some fantastic snap goals including one
that nearly broke the goal post. There was a very memorable
play made up of a couple of kicks and 3 or 4 handballs from
a goal square kick-out that resulted in Matty accepting the
ball 1 metre in front of goal and scoring. Sweet. Josh Carr's
courageous mark on the members side was really indicative
of the Power's attitude to their game.
The rest of this report is dedicated to the
Burgoyne brothers, Peter and Shaun who just did some absolutely
unbelievable stuff, moreso Shaun who really showed some intelligence
in his play. Some of the plays were inspirational, especially
one where he got caught with the ball in the forward right
pocket and broke away from his tackler, had another defender
running toward him, dummied a pass, ran around him and carefully
tapped the ball in for a goal. Brilliant. Peter was doing
his regular sprints, leading in forward and kicking
in from 45 metres and 45 degrees out and nailing them every
time. What a glorious day.
On a last note, KG finally had to shut up because
he could not say "Shaun Burgoyne" when Shaun was
getting most of the play. He kept on saying "Shoyne Burgaun"
and was getting paid out by his co-comentators to the point
where had to be silent. S-s-s-s-s-sorry, K-k-k-k-e-n.
Ladder: 40 points
(Brisbane as well) but our percentage is now at 138.1% with
Brisbane on 132.51%.
Highlight:
1) ..and Burgoyne kicks a goal... and Burgoyne
kicks a goal! Great game for the Burgoyne Bros. AGAIN!!!
2) Some beautiful individual efforts and team play that made
you proud as to be a Port supporter. Adam Kingsley, Roger
James and Gavin Wanganeen are just legends.
Lowlight:
1) Looks like "Holding the Ball" isn't
really given anymore seeing the numerous times that the umpires
refused to call it...those idiots.
2) Terry Wallace just can't figure out that flooding won't
work sometimes.
