About Love

Here are some words which I feel were "given" while I was writing my September Equinox page in 2005, and which inspired me to make this page. Quotes from many other writers follow.

How can we be inspired to love our home, this beautiful, mysterious, volatile, delicately balanced system we call Earth, deeply enough to radically change our lives?

For this is what we need to do - not for ourselves, for, like any species, our time here has limits - but because it is required of us.

To love in any and every way we can - joyfully, sadly, angrily, hopefully, setting no limits on our love.

Love sees the whole picture, the dark as well as the light, and all the shades in between
- and continues to love. That which sees only the "good" is mere sentiment or romanticism.

Loving beyond our capacity, beyond everything we thought we were capable of.

The English language, with it's hugely rich vocabulary, is lacking here. We have only one word for love - so it has become commonplace, trivialised, has lost it's power. And in losing that power, the power of the Word, we have lost our understanding of Love itself. We frequently fail to recognise it, because we expect it always to feel warm & fuzzy, to satisfy our current desire. This is why when we get what we think we want, we are puzzled because we so often feel unfulfilled.

Love cannot be evaluated or measured. Nor is it merely an emotion. It is an act of will, aided immeasurably by linking to a greater power.

It doesn't matter how you think of "God" - or even whether you believe in a deity. Just use the power of that something more which we can all experience if we allow ourselves to do so.

Love is kindness, compassion, reverence, respect, acceptance, generosity and obedience to constantly re-examined conscience. It is considering the whole, not just that which we think of as our own. Maybe it is what some call God. Maybe it is an energy inhererent in the Cosmos.
All I am certain of is that we need to reclaim our power to love. It is the one thing we can all do!
