Official Mod Update #5
» October
15th, 2006 4:00
pm
For anyone that read
arkanis50’s interview with
AusBattlefields.com, you will be well
aware that the Australian Forces team
are still hard at work on the mod.
However, since the publishing of that
interview last month, we have
encountered a few “real life” issues
that will indefinitely delay the
upcoming 0.3 release.
To make up for the delay, here are a few
more bits and pieces from the mod to
checkout in the meantime:
M4 Carbine (modelled by BEEX)
Typically carried by the Australian
Special Air Service Regiment (SASR), the
M4 Carbine has been fitted with an Eclan
scope, forward handgrip, infrared
illuminator and visible laser
attachments. The M203 grenade launcher
has been removed and replaced with a
forward grip in an attempt to keep the
Australian Spec Ops class balanced.
RPG-18 (modelled by Vando)
The RPG-18 Mukha is a Russian
short-range, disposable light anti-tank
rocket launcher.
Similar in both appearance and in
functionality to the M72 LAW, these
weapons are carried with the part of the
launch tube collapsed making the weapon
much more compact. When preparing to
fire, the soldier using the RPG-18
extends the tube. Sights are mounted on
the top of the tube with the trigger
located just below the rear peep sight.
The Battle For Termez (created by
Vando)
Australian Forces have entered from
southern Uzbekistan in order to engage
and destroy MEC military facilities in
the territory near the Afghanistan
border. Reconnaissance by Allied forces
in the region has revealed a significant
armoured presence in the mountains.
That’s about it for Community Update 5.
We will make sure to keep everyone
informed about the release of 0.3.

Still Going
Strong
»
September 17th, 2006 10:00 pm
The core mod team have been working
tirelessly for over the last year
putting together 0.3, don't let the lack
of news fool you - we are all here for
the long haul. The fact that patch 1.4
was released recently did not
necessarily mean the mod would be
released the very next day. The release
of BF2AUS 0.3 was, and still is,
dependant on two conditions; the first
being the release of the Battlefield 2
1.4 patch, the second condition being
that we are only going to release the
mod when we are happy with the
content. There is no point rushing out
an unpolished, bug-ridden modification
after all of the effort the team has put
into it.
With that said, the mod is currently
100% compatible with Battlefield 2
version 1.4, with build
03a31 of Battlefield 2: Australian
Forces undergoing internal testing over
the weekend. Clocking-in at over 350MB,
and growing steadily, the team have been
putting the new content through its
paces. Playing with the new toys at our
disposal. Getting up to all sorts of
crazy shit... like surfing on the front
of an airborne MRH-90 while headshotting
MEC soldiers with the Browning HP as we
flew past. That was a laugh-and-a-half!
Damn the original content list, let's
just keep adding cool stuff!
The core team have also been discussing
the future of the mod, namely the 0.4
release. As we see it, Australian Forces
will be broken into three distinct
releases, each release with its own
distinct focus. Beginning with release
0.3, the first phase will revolve around
adding the complete compliment of
Australian weapons, models and vehicles,
focusing on operations in Iraq, and the
Middle East. Phase two, 0.4, will focus
on operations in a new, and more diverse
theatre - but we don't plan on revealing
too much about 0.4 at this stage. As for
stage three, 0.5... let's just say that
all hell is going to break loose. Of
course whether we actually make it to
release 0.4 or 0.5 will be totally
dependant on support from the Australian
BF2 community - if you aren't going to
play it, we aren't going to continue
making it.
That's about all we have to reveal for
the moment. Chances are we that will do
one more Community Update in the next
couple of weeks, and then "go black"
until release. No pictures, no updates,
no interviews. Get in while you can.
Progress From
The Front
» August
10th, 2006 11:00 pm
Version 0.3
of Australian Forces is progressing
well, despite the absence of recent news
items. We are stepping-up internal
multiplayer testing in an attempt to
iron-out any issues with the new
content, and to make sure 0.3 hits the
internet with minimal issues - meaning
fewer hotfixes and patches.
We have also acquired the services of a
new team member, Adam, who will be
lending his talent in the animation
department, as well as some awesome logo
and intro videos for the mod.
Official Mod Update #4
» July
17th, 2006 6:00
pm
Can you believe it? We're already up to our fourth Battlefield 2: Australian Forces community updates. We should really rename these things "The Beex Community Update"; given that he seems to be doing the bulk of the content... he's a mod-making machine!
All-Terrain Vehicle (modelled and textured by BEEX)
Last update we gave you a sneak peek at an untextured render of the ATV's; here's the finished product - complete with in-game screenshots. Looks sweet!
ASLAV-AD (modelled and textured by BEEX)
The Australian Light Armoured vehicle (ASLAV) is a highly mobile, amphibious eight wheeled armoured vehicle that is ideally suited to conduct reconnaissance and surveillance operations. The ASLAV-AD (Air Defense) is a fictional anti-aircraft variant based on the LAV-AD. Given that the Australian Army does not have a standard anti-aircraft vehicle, this was the most logical choice for the mod.
Here are some exclusive in-game screenshots and renders provided by Beex:
We've kept this update short and sweet. For the record, the mod will be released when we feel the content is at level of quality that we are happy with, and only after the 1.4 patch. It will come out soon - probably the day after everyone quits Battlefield 2.

BF2AUS Gets Podcasted
» July 2nd, 2006

pm
The team at
Battlefield Podcast have given the
Battlefield 2: Australian Forces mod a
bit of a wrap in their latest
installment, Episode 12:
http://www.bfpodcast.com/index.php?id=27.
I believe the
phrase "it looks awesome" was used in
there somewhere... go, go selective
quoting.
We are always astounded by the level of
international interest the mod has
received, especially from our friends in
Germany (I'm guessing it is the Steyrs).
The mod has gone from
strength-to-strength, and hopefully the
finished product will show people what
four guys from Australia can do- a
quality mod that balances the fun of
BF2, a reasonably accurate
representation of the ADF, and a dash of
poetic license.
Note: As an aside for our overseas
readers, in the Australian vernacular,
"getting a wrap" is a good thing. ;)

0.28 Hotfix Released
» June
25th, 2006 9:00
am
The
Version 0.28 Hotfix makes the mod
compatible with the 1.3 patch. We are
hard at work on version 0.3 with new
weapons and vehicles, but the release of
the 1.3 patch has meant we have had to
release a new version to make sure
people can still play the mod while they
wait for the new release.
Official Mod Update #3
» June
18th, 2006 8:00
pm
Time for the third of our Battlefield 2: Australian Forces community updates. Straight off the bat, the reports of the mods death were greatly exaggerated. We are still hard at work on the mod, but real life and PPP's (Piss Poor Patches) are getting in the way of 0.3's release.
All-Terrain Vehicle (modelled by BEEX)
All-Terrain Vehicles have been utilised in numerous modern conflicts, primarily in the Middle-East. The Australian Army continues to use six-wheel all-terrain vehicles in Iraq and Afghanistan, allowing for sniper and recon teams to rapidly deploy in the field.

Leopard 1 MBT (modelled by BEEX)
The Leopard (or Leopard 1) is a German designed and produced main battle tank that first entered service in 1965 and was used as the main MBT for Germany, other European countries, Australia, Canada and Chile. Having served Australia faithfully for close to thirty years, the fleet of aging Leopard tanks are in the process of being replaced by the M1 Abrams.

84mm Carl Gustav MRAAW (modelled by Vando, textured by arkanis50)
The Carl Gustav is the common name for the 84mm recoilless rifle anti-tank weapon. Also known as the 84 mm Carl Gustav Medium Range Anti-Armour Weapon, or Carl Gutsache by Australian infantry, the Carl Gustav was first introduced in 1946, and while similar weapons of the era have generally disappeared, the Carl Gustav remains in widespread use today. When the task is above the LAW, you need to call on Carl Gustav.

Timed C4 Explosives (modelled and textured by BEEX)
When you become an Engineer in the army, you are trained in the art of blowing shit up! Need to remove a pesky bridge or barrier? Need to disable or destroy an enemy vehicle? It?s now as easy as deploying a timed C4 explosive pack and counting to ten. Why should the Spec Ops have all the explosives? Yes? it really does count down to ten.

ASLAV-PC (modelled and textured by BEEX)
The ASLAV-PC (Personnel Carrier) variant is a two man vehicle (commander and gunner) typically used in reconnaissance, with the ability to transport numerous cavalry scouts or infantry soldiers. The ASLAV-PC is armed with a Kongsberg Protector Remote Weapon System, allowing the gunner to operate the weapon from within the relative safety of the armoured vehicle.
Here are some more ingame screenshots and renders provided by Beex.

ASLAV-25 (modelled and textured by BEEX)
The Australian Light Armoured vehicle (ASLAV) is a highly mobile, amphibious eight wheeled armoured vehicle that is ideally suited to conduct reconnaissance and surveillance operations. The ASLAV-25 variant is the Australian version of the LAV-25.
Here are some more ingame screenshots and renders provided by Beex.

That's the end of the third update. We
have a heap more content being polished
and prepped, some of which we do not
plan on showing the public before the
release. We are waiting to see how this
1.31 patch bodes before we look at any
official release dates.

Where is BF2AUS
0.3?
» May

pm
We said we would try to release 0.3 in
May. May is now all but over. There are
a few reasons why we won't be releasing
the mod this month, one of the prime
reasons is the fact BF2 patch 1.31 (or
whatever the hell they are calling it)
has still not been released. Unlike
previous releases, we do not intend to
release the mod and then have EA release
a patch a week later that breaks
it. We plan on seeing what effects the
new patch will have, then release 0.3.
While we wait for the patch,
we can use the opportunity to work on
more content for 0.3.

Official Mod
Update #2
» April
24th, 2006 8:00
pm
Time for the second of our
Battlefield 2: Australian Forces
community updates. That’s right, your
chance to see more of the content we
have been tinkering with for the last
few months.
Bushmaster IMV (modeled by BEEX)
The Bushmaster Infantry Mobility Vehicle
is an Australian designed and built,
wheeled armoured vehicle, produced by
Australian Defence Industries Limited (ADI).
The role of the Bushmaster is to provide
mobile armoured transport, making the
vehicle ideally suited for a range of
applications; including policing,
peacekeeping, troop transport, weapons
platform and protected logistics. The
Bushmaster Infantry Mobility Vehicle is,
as the name suggests, a lightly armed
and armoured vehicle, and should not be
confused with an armoured personnel
carrier.

ASLAV-PC (modeled and textured by
BEEX)
The Australian Light Armoured vehicle (ASLAV)
is a highly mobile, amphibious eight
wheeled armoured vehicle that is ideally
suited to conduct reconnaissance and
surveillance operations. The ASLAV-PC
(Personnel Carrier) variant is a two man
vehicle (commander and gunner) typically
used in reconnaissance, with the ability
to transport numerous cavalry scouts or
infantry soldiers. The ASLAV-PC is armed
with a Kongsberg Protector Remote Weapon
System, allowing the gunner to operate
the weapon from within the relative
safety of the armoured vehicle.

ASLAV-25 (modeled by BEEX)
The Australian Light Armoured vehicle (ASLAV)
is a highly mobile, amphibious eight
wheeled armoured vehicle that is ideally
suited to conduct reconnaissance and
surveillance operations. The ASLAV-25
variant is the Australian version of the
LAV-25.

Multi-Role Helicopter 90 (MRH-90)
(modeled by BEEX)
The Eurocopter MRH-90, based on the NH
90, is a true multi-role helicopter.
With its ability to operate both on land
and at sea, the MRH-90 was the perfect
candidate to compliment and/or replace
the existing Black Hawk helicopters used
by the ADF.

F-111 (modeled by BEEX)
The F-111 is affectionately known as the
‘Pig’ in RAAF circles, for its ability
to hunt at night with its nose to the
ground thanks to its terrain-following
radar. With its numerous weapons,
airframe, engine and avionics upgrades,
the F-111 remains the fastest and
longest range combat aircraft in the
region, and operates as an all-weather,
day or night air combat strike platform.

Austeyr F88 Variants (modeled by
BrotherEstapol)
F88c: The Austeyr F88c is a Carbine
version of the regular F88 which has a
10cm shorter barrel, it is generally
used by vehicle crew members, who have
less space to work with.
The Anti-Tank Class will get have the
F88c.
F88s: The Austeyr F88s with a picatinny
rail in place of the standard optic
sight to allow the attachment of various
other sights. This particular variant
has an ELCAN "Wildcat" C79 scope, which
has vastly improved optics over the
standard F88 scope.
The Medic Class will be equipped with
the F88s.
F88 GLA: This version of the F88 differs
from the stadard models as it features
an Inter-bar interface (replacing the
foregrip and bayonet lug), which allows
the user to attach a M203PI Grenade
Launcher. It also has a quadrant sight
to which a Firepoint red dot sight is
attached.
The Assault Class will be lugging this
beauty around.

RPG-7 (modeled and textured by
Vando)
The RPG-7 (Ruchnoy Protivotankoviy
Granatomet) is a man-portable,
shoulder-launched rocket propelled
grenade weapons. Its robustness,
simplicity, low cost and effectiveness
have made it the most widely used RPG in
the world. The RPG-7 is popular with
irregular and guerrilla forces,
including terrorist organisations.
Numerous recent conflicts with such
forces have seen extensive use of the
RPG-7, including Somalia, Iraq, and
Afghanistan.

FIM-92 Stinger (modeled by BEEX)
Light to carry and relatively easy to
operate, the FIM-92 Stinger is a passive
infrared homing surface-to-air missile,
shoulder-fired by a single operator,
although officially it requires two. The
FIM-92B can attack aircraft at a range
of up to 15,700 feet (4,800 m) and at
altitudes between 600 and 12,500 feet
(180 and 3,800 m).

Browning HP (modeled and textured
by BrotherEstapol)
The Browning HP is the sidearm of choice
for Australian Defence Force personnel.
The Browning HP will be replacing the
92s in all the kits except for the
Sniper and Spec-Ops class, who will be
getting a different pistol. (more on
that next update ;))

Kubaysah Cement Factory (created
by Vando)
Based on a real-world ADF operation in
Iraq, the “Kubaysah Cement Factory” is
all about infantry-focused combat;
armour-whores need not apply. Using
actual geographical information from the
Kubaysah region, ADF and MEC troops will
engage in a bloody struggle as they
attempt to hold this remote factory.
Being caught outside the perimeter could
result in certain death from a sniper’s
bullet; being caught inside the
perimeter could result in certain death
from intense firefights among the
factory’s numerous structures. Just
don’t go crying to your Commander for
help – there aren’t going to be any UAV
flights or artillery strikes to save
you!

Sahl Al Abbah (created by Vando)
The Highway To Hell. Responding to
numerous fatal rocket attacks and
improvised explosive devices aimed at
disrupting Allied convoys on the highway
passing through Sahl Al Abbah,
Australian forces have been deployed to
a remote village south of the town.
Intent upon regaining strategic control
of the region, the ADF must negotiate
both the volatile streets of Sahl Al
Abbah, the unforgiving desert
surroundings, and a determined and
unrelenting MEC presence.

That’s about it for our second community
update. I’m sure we can slip one more in
before the release of 0.3… as we always
say “May is a good month to release a
mod”.
One final thought: With ANZAC Day
approaching, let us honour the bravery
and sacrifice of the members of the
Australian and New Zealand Army Corps
(ANZAC), and of all those who served
their country. These brave souls gave so
much, so we can ask so little in return.
Lest we forget.

Official Mod
Update #1
» March 11th, 2006 12:00
pm
For a mod that has been in
development since early July 2005, it
has taken almost eight months for the
Australian Forces team to post an
official mod update. Typically we like
to release little tasters for our
patient supporters, but now that version
0.3 is getting closer, it is time to
showcase some of the work from our
small, but talented team.
Tiger ARH (modeled and textured
by BEEX)
With Australia taking delivery of the
first of twenty-two Tigers in 2004, The
Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopters (ARH)
represents a significant milestone in
the development of the ADF’s aviation
capability. The Tigers’ flexibility,
ability to deploy at short notice and to
operate in diverse circumstances,
represents a revolution in the
Australian Army's operational
versatility.

Long Range Patrol Vehicle
(modeled and textured by BEEX)
The Long Range Patrol Vehicle was
introduced into service with the
Australian Army in November 1991.
Initially the vehicle was used to carry
out medium and long range reconnaissance
over continental Australia by the
Special Air Service Regiment (SASR);
although it has recently been deployed
during SAS operations in the Middle
East.

Steyr F88 AusSteyr and Steyr F88-S
(modeled and textured by Brother Estapol)
Steyr F88 AusSteyr – Based on the AUG
A1, although slightly modified for tough
Australian conditions.

Steyr F88S - A version of the
Australian F88 Austeyr with a picatinny
rail in place of the standard optic
sight to allow the attachment of various
other sights (such as night vision or
high-quality long range sights such as
the Elcan C79 Wildcat, ACOG or Aimpoint).
This version of the Steyr is notorious
amongst Australian infantry soldiers
because the positioning of its picatinny
rail is uncomfortably close to the
cocking handle and almost always results
in shredded knuckles after prolonged
use.

We have a heap more new vehicles,
weapons and maps to show you, but that’s
probably enough for this little update.
Hopefully next update we will show you
some more of the new vehicles we have in
store, as well as some previews of
awesome maps made by our mapper Vando.

Time to
get interactive! As most of you would
know, Australian Forces is both a
singleplayer and multiplayer
modification, and at present the mod
retains the default bot names from
Battlefield 2 singleplayer. These
original bot names were sourced from the
Swedish DICE development team, and as a
result, we have decided to make the mod
process a bit more fun and interactive
for the community.
With version 0.3's release on the
horizon, the Australian Forces
development team gives you the
opportunity to get your name into the
mod, by adopting your very own bot!
What you need to do:
ENTRIES CLOSED!!!
There's room for up anywhere up to 80 or
90 bot names, but the mod team and
people who have helped out get first
priority for names. We don't really
expect 80 or 90 people to supply names,
but who knows.
The bot names are randomly selected from
a list of bot names, so it's the luck of
the draw if your name will be picked out
by the game each time you play
singleplayer.
Any identities and their real world
names that are given to us will be used
purely for this mod, and will not be
given out to anyone else.

Version 0.25
Patch Released!
» November 27th, 2005 10:00 am
Version
0.25 makes the mod 100% compatible with
the new patch. We are hard at work on
version 0.3 with new weapons and
vehicles, but the unexpected release of
the 1.12 patch has meant we have had to
release a patch to make sure people can
still play 0.2 while they wait for the
new release. If you play Australian
Forces a lot offline, online or at lans,
then you will probably want this patch.
If you don't play it a lot, you can
probably wait for the next proper
release.

» October 7th, 2005 10:00 am
With the release of the Battlefield
1.03 patch, there were a few features
that got broken, and a couple of handy
fixes which will made mods more friendly
for users. Version 0.2 makes the mod
100% compatible with the new patch. The
most important change in 0.2 is the fact
that BF2 levels can now be inherited,
meaning you no longer have to copy the
BF2 maps into the mod - reducing the
size of the mod on your hard drive by up
to 750MB.
Version
v 0.2
---------------------------------
- English localisation files updated to
reflect 1.03 changes
- Levels are now inherited from BF2
- Map loading screens changed
- Added Bot Config program "BotConfig.exe"
written by pogmohoin
- Support for dedicated server
- New animated busy cursor
- Shortcut icon added

Sorry for the lack of new major features
in this release, but it was an important
to get it compatible with 1.03.
Hopefully release 0.3 should have more
goodies in it... can you say "Steyr
F88"?

First Release
On The Horizon!
» September 29th, 2005 10:00 am
The first release of Australian Forces
will probably be in about two weeks.
This initial release will comprise of
skinned flags, uniforms, HUD/interface,
anthem changes, possibly some skinned
vehicles, and the addition of blood.
This release will mainly be a taster of
sorts, which will give people an idea of
what it is all about, to get comments on
some of the work, and to hopefully
attract some interested people to help
out - especially on the vehicle modeling
side of things. If you have experience
making models in 3D Studio/Maya and
would like to contribute some vehicles,
or know how to animate and import
weapons in BF2, please drop us a line.

Version 0.1
Finally Released!

Welcome to the temporary site for the
Australian Forces mod. As you can see,
we have started work on modding the BF2
demo. Naturally we need to wait until
the retail version of the game is out
before we can get the full scope of the
work that is needed, let alone actually
releasing the mod. As I have stated
previously, the first version of this
mod will essentially be a skin pack and
shouldn't take too long to be released
after the retail game hits the shelves
(maybe two or three weeks). Please stay
tuned for more news.
