This was worn to the Zencon II convention in 1988. Before the start of Star Trek: The Next Generation there was a Romulan faction in Star Trek fandom that was equal to those who favoured the Klingons. With the start of the new series most of us were a little miffed that the things associated with the Romulans from the original series - an honour system and a military culture, had now been given to the reinvented Klingons. Not only that they now had the official "Next Generation Alien Bumpy Forehead" and seemed to be wearing teacosies. We continued our own way with the original version of the Rhihansu (as fans are wont to do). The tunic was black polyester covered with little rectangles of "laser" reflective plastic. It gave it a nice green sheen. The trousers were from a gaberdine that had a similar pattern of rectangles on it so it matched nicely I thought. Under the tunic was the skivvy made for the Occupation Forces uniform along with some black lycra gloves. The cloak was black silk. At the front two earings with purple paste stones that had been converted to a cloak clasp. A gold chain hung between the two for effect. The knife as a side-arm was a reproduction Nazi diplomatic dagger. I had the swastika removed and the Romulan symbol engraved in its place. The "rifle" was a little gizmo put together by one of the guys involved with fandom and it had LEDs and all sorts of things that flashed!
