Psicop
From TV's Babylon 5

The Australian Costumers' Guild Ball 1997

Reproduced from one of the most intelligent television shows in years was the uniform of a Psicop, one of the police of the Psicorps. While many of the costumes on Babylon 5 were extrapolations of existing fashion it wasn't terribly "out there" as some shows have been. This tended to give it a more realistic and functional appearance rather than a more "space opera" approach.

Primarily the change was a suit jacket. The lapel on the left side stayed pretty much as is while the collar had to be altered and fitted with a leatherette underpiece with the right lapel having to be completely reworked and made into a flap that went in under the left lapel. The sam browne style belt was stiched directly to the jacket with a side fastening (generally hidden under the right arm). Ideally I should have hand stiched it but I was running out of time so it was machine sewn through the lining. I suppose I should pull it off and redo it properly one day.

I attempted to dye a t-shirt the right shade of grey but that was an abysmal failure. Thankfully I ended up finding a dark-grey (as opposed to all the light-grey t-shirts everywhere) in an athletic shop.

The Psicorps symbol I cut from a sheet of copper which was then buffed and coated with an antioxidant to prevent it from tarnishing. Onto it I glued three layers of a photocopied Psi symbol (my efforts at cutting one from plastic also not faring well). This was then backed with a simple pin-clasp from a craft supplier.

I am currently working on a PPG kit that I purchased some years back but it hasn't been finished yet.
