Ripponlea Picnic for 1997

Some years ago the Australian Costumers' Guild would organise an annual Victorian Picnic. For a while it was held at Ripponlea Mansion until the National Trust changed its policy and decided to restore the house to its 1930's style. Why anyone would want to turn the interior of a victorian era home back into a 1930 style is beyond me.

But I digress.

This is one of my few costume outfits that is nearly all bought or found items.

The shirt is a proper dress shirt with a detachable wing collar. The shirt studs were bought by my Grandmother many years ago at a second-hand shop. From memory the collar stud was one I found in a box of collars I got from my Grandpa. The cuff-links belonged to my other Grandfather's father and are negraved with the same family crest as is on my signet ring. Even the watch and chain belonged to my Grandpa.

The waistcoat was a Morticia's design made for me while the frock coat is a formal one I purchased from a wedding supplier a few years prior. The trousers are formal ones from a dinner suit I had bought in an op-shop. The walking cane was one I purchased from an antique shop on the way to my brother's wedding.

Even the monocle I had bought with some gift vouchers I'd won for Amazon Dry Goods.
