Romulan Occupation Forces

Worn to the KinCon 3 convention in 1988

Before the start of Star Trek: The Next Generation there was a Romulan faction in Star Trek fandom that was equal to those who favoured the Klingons. With the start of the new series most of us were a little miffed that the things associated with the Romulans from the original series - an honour system and a military culture, had now been given to the reinvented Klingons. Not only that they now had the official "Next Generation Alien Bumpy Forehead" and seemed to be wearing teacosies. We continued our own way with the original version of the Rhihansu (as fans are wont to do). This was part of a skit about the Romulan Occupation Forces who were trying to extract information from a human prisoner. I was the medical officer so I made a show of drugging the prisoner and then subjecting them to an insideous torture - a small protable TV was set up in front of them and the theme from Neighbours started up!

The tunic was a metallic polyester that was piped in gold braid. Silver with purple undershirt for command staff and green with black undershirt for other crew. A small romulan insignia was fitted on the left side with a services indicator just about it. Rank stars were located on the cloak collar (but I didn't have a cloak so I never worried about it).

The belt was vinyl with a cast belt buckle attached. My belt had additional loops for putting various medical devices in it (most of which you can't see because of my arms in the photo). The black skivvey had it's collar padded and then stitched with silver thread. As a result of this it was no longer stretch which necessitated putting a zip in the rear shoulder seam.

Though you can't see it I'm holding in my hands a medical kit which I put together. Most of it was converted from detergent lids or bits of model kit. I remember the drug "injector" was part of an old water pistol. The case itself was lined with foam with gaps for the various things, all inside an old drill case that I had painted black.
