Gomphrena canescens (AMARANTHACEAE) annual herbs, to 0.8m; leaves opposite; flowers mostly pink (subsp. canescens) or less commonly red (subsp. erythrosepala), often become white with age; in a variety of soil types and habitats but commonly on open areas of sandy or stoney ground and roadside verges; seen mostly between Apr-Aug.
