P5 Slalom Jam

March 18, 2006
P5, Sydney Olympic Park

The misnamed slalom jam took place on an ominously cloudy day at the wide-open spaces of P5—the largest and most distant carpark at the Sydney Olympic complex. With the space to run a dual-lane format we abandoned our plan of having two different courses and decided instead that head-to-head was the way to get some serious grudge-match racing.

But before the serious head-to-head stuff started we held a qualifying jam session to determine the seedings for the elimination rounds. Paul had the fastest time and went in as first seed.

But by the time the elimination rounds began, fitness was starting to become a factor. Although Paul had the fastest time of the day he couldn't sustain his performance, and was pipped by Haggy in the final.

Thanks to everybody who helped out on the day, and to all the first-time racers. And thanks to Sk8kings for generously providing some gear for prizes.

Although Paul is just behind, he actually beat Haggy on this run. Haggy wins, and Paul is second. Thanks to Sk8kings and Groundhangers for the prizes. The Axe was ridden into third place.
