Concept Mapscan be used
as a method of organising and retrieving knowledge
Notes:
From the previous slide the kinds of things we can do to get the information into the long term memory, help it stay there and retrieve it involve a few key strategies. One of them is organisation. This does not mean organisation of worksheets etc but how the organisation of knowledge or skills etc is presented in the course. This organisation needs to allow for zooming in and out for detail and big picture and levels in between, to show where new information fits.
Many text books maths for example are on constant focus. They go in at a level and stay there not really giving the student a chance to see where this knowledge fits or can be applied.
An way of involving yourselves and your students in developing organisational structures in their brains is the use of concept maps. These can be used at various points.
