First off I
must say that Richard Arinaitwe has not been convicted of
any murders, and therefore I can't really call him a serial
killer (even though he has no qualms about calling himself
one), so for the purpose of this page we will call him
'alleged serial killer', okay.
I also must say that I know absolutely nothing about his
murders either. All that I know is that he has killed eight
by strangulation, and that seven of them were local Kampala,
Uganda, women. The only reason I know anything about him is
because his final victim was an American working as a
programmer for East Africa Minnesota Information Health
Volunteers. Her name was Maria Cecilia Goetz, a 35-year-old
Minneapolis woman. She was killed at a downtown Kampala
hotel in July.
As for Arinaitwe - well all I know is that he is a former
law student who likes to talk. In fact that is where the
purpose of this page is leading.
You see he was caught after killing the American ( I guess
they really are more important than the rest of us).
Following his arrest he decided to own up to the other
murders. He confessed to Kampala Magistrate Elizabeth Jane
Alividza.
After giving his confession to Alividza, Arinaitwe asked her
for a glass of water. While her back was turned, he grabbed
her by the neck and tried to strangle her.
A police officer then jumped in and saved her life. But
since he had nothing to lose, Arinaitwe turned his attention
to the cop - almost killing him as well. Unfortunately for
Arinaitwe more police were on hand and he missed out on
adding to his eight victims.
And now to the funny bit -
When asked why he attacked Alividza, Arinaitwe said he was
simply demonstrating how he killed his victims.
He was sentenced to 24 months for the attempted murders. He
is also currently awaiting his trial for murder.
