I
do love a nutcase that turns for very little reason, or at
least due to a sudden mental lapse.
In Kevin Artz's case it was quite possibly that fact that
several weeks prior to his alleged murderous activity he
underwent brain surgery to remove a large blood clot. And it
would seem that the surgery either didn't work properly, or
at the very least led to a large mental disjunction.
After 12 years of marriage Kevin Artz said he looked at his
wife Patricia and saw the devil staring back. A pretty
fucked up though most would think, but for Kevin it seemed
to be a pretty normal thought.
So what do you do when you become convinced your wife is the
devil?
For Kevin, there was only one solution, he beat his wife to
death with a metal pipe, dismembered her body and cooked it
for two days at their family restaurant in July of 1999.
He then decided to put a box containing his wife's severed
head on a neighbours porch, but someone thought he was
acting suspiciously and called police. They arrested him as
he was leaving the scene.
Perhaps even more bizarre than his actions was the fact that
Artz was found competent to stand trial.
Unfortunately that's all I know, so I can't tell you what
the verdict of the trial was.
One thing I have learnt is that the restaurant has now been
transformed into an entirely different kind of business,
which I'm sure has pleased his former neighbours.
