"You'll
see. Tomorrow your not going to work here any more.
I told you and I swear it."
Julio was a bit of a loser.
And on the 25 March 1990 he proved it once and for all. He
had been drinking at the Happy Land social club when he
bumped into his ex-girlfriend, Lydia Feliciano, and got into
a bit of a tiff. A brawl broke out and Gonzalez was escorted
out of the building by security.
So a rather embarrassed and
pissed off Julio Gonzalez walked down the street and
purchased $1 worth of petrol. Well the rest is pretty
obvious, Julio set the Happy Land alight and 87 people wound
up dead.
BUT to the best bit. Of the
five survivors, Lydia Feliciano was one. Poor old Julio
really fucked that one up.
On August 19, 1991, Gonzalez
was found guilty of 87 counts of second degree murder; 87
counts of felony murder; one count of first degree arson and
one count of assault (on the clubs DJ).
On December 19, 1991 he was sentenced to
25 years to life.
INTERESTING BIT
Lydia Feliciano was the first
too leave the building. When she first noticed the flames
she didn't warn anyone, she just left. At the trial she
tried to say that she did try to tell someone that there was
a fire, but that they mustn't have listened.
