    Title: Westlife or Westcoast?
Source: Herald Sun, Melbourne | Mariah Australia
    Updated by: Joe

THE footy is back, and there's no getting around the disturbing similarities between AFL clubs and pop stars.

Sydney = Westlife: Momentarily captured the imagination via leggy blondes (Leanne Edelsten/Claudia Schiffer's Uptown Girl cameo) and tight short wearers (Warwick Capper/a Mariah collabo). Bored their way to glory, but unlikely to navigate those lofty heights again.

West Coast = Murder Inc: As Aussie and US cops investigated allegations of drugs, alleged links to organised crime and in-fighting, it's been mighty tough distinguishing Irv Gotti's empire from Woosha's this past year.

St Kilda = Christina Aguilera: Everyone's second favourite team/popstrelle have teased with glimpses of form (major glimpses in the Dirrty clip). Despite huge talent, neither possess the mettle to outlast their rivals.

Adelaide = Jessica Simpson: The Crows lost Carey as Simpson ditched Lachey, yet somehow, steered by bogans lacking credentials (Neil Craig and papa Joe Simpson), they managed to surge in '05.

Port Adelaide = Coldplay: Like Chris Martin, Warren Tredrea is almost the best in the biz when on song, but is plagued with inaccuracy when the pressure's on.

Melbourne = Human Nature (again): Sure, there's some talent, but both are battlers with a glossy makeover. Last year, the Dees broke their odd-year finals curse, while the 'Naitch also defied logic as their Motown album blew up.

Kangaroos = Pete Murray: The battler's battler, plugging away without any obvious talent before landing inexplicable 2005 success that is likely to be nothing but a fond memory in a few years.

Geelong = Mariah Carey: Redefined glamour in the '90s before apparently losing the plot. Amazingly managed to return to a position of stability and success last year!

    Next week, the bottom eight.

    Title: Mariah's Workout Bummer
    Source: MX | Mariah Australia
    Updated by: Joe

Mariah Carey has a problem - her rear end is fading fast.

She's working out and looking great, but all this sweat has come at a cost for the Grammy Award-winning star.

``Everyone said I was fat so I did something about it,'' she said. ``I've been working out like mad.''

And as if to prove her point, Carey, 35, challenged members of the media to assess her physique for themselves, hello magazine.com reports.

``You can even punch me in the stomach and feel how tight that is,'' she said.

``But I've gotta slow it down because someone told me I was losing my arse - and I don't want to lose that.''

Carey reportedly stopped traffic at the Champs Elysees in Paris by appearing in a thigh-skimming, bright pink raincoat to film her latest video, Say Somethin'.

And with curves or without, she's still a popular identity in Paris, where she was mobbed by fans as she left the Four Seasons hotel - this time attired rather more demurely in a cream coat dress. She smiled gamely as minders helped her through the throng.

While Carey ponders how to preserve her posterior, don't go feeling too sorry for the comeback queen.

The California vineyard she bought last year is reportedly going great guns, and fans can now buy the Mariah Mendocino Ridge Zinfanded online.

And while only time will tell whether Carey's drop will be as good as fellow celebrity vintner Francis Ford Coppola's award-winning wines, the signs so far are good.

She's already picked up the Scott Zweisel Silver Award in the San Francisco Chronicle wine competition.

    Title: ARIA Update
    Source: Mariah Australia
    Updated by: Joe

Well it seems that 'Get Your Number' has staying power after all, only dropping one spot to number twenty. 'Dont Forget About Us' leaves the top fifty.

On the Urban Charts, 'Get Your Number' remains at number six, 'Dont Forget About Us' also retains last weeks position of number fifteen, and 'Shake It Off' bows out of the chart.

On the album front, The Emancipation of Mimi continues its steady downward slide on the Urban chart, dropping one spot to number nine. The Emancipation of Mimi failed to chart on the standard album charts for the second week running. Looks like this is the end of TEOM's chart run, but after 47 weeks, it wasn't half bad!

    Source: The Mercury, Hobart
    Updated by: Joe

MARIAH Carey kept her comeback going yesterday, picking up best album and best single honours at the annual Soul Train Music Awards.

Carey nabbed awards for best-female album with The Emancipation of Mimi and best-female single with We Belong Together.

``This has been the biggest and most successful year of my life,'' said Carey, who returned last year after dominating the pop charts for much of the 1990s.

A year ago, Carey's career looked to be fading following a handful of debacles that included a contract buy-out by Virgin Records.

``You know that whatever doesn't kill you will make you stronger,'' she said.

Chris Brown claimed the award for best new rap artist for his album Run It.

"Jack is a swimmer so he gets obsessed with anything to do with water, even if I'm taking a shower he'll try to knock on the door and come and stand in the shower. If I'm running a bath all of a sudden I'll hear a splash and Jack will have jumped into the tub!"

    Title: ARIA Update - Feb 26-Mar 04, 2006
    Source: ARIA | Mariah Australia
    Updated by: Joe

'Get Your Number' makes it's debut this week, landing at the #19 position on the singles chart. This isn't a bad debut, however UMA could have done more for the single, mainly by giving us a new cover that wouldn't be confused with the older 'Shake It Off'. 'Dont Forget About Us' continues it's decline out of the top 50, losing ten positions to fall to #47 this week.

On the Urban Single Chart, 'Get Your Number' is the only debut this week, and takes the #6 position. 'Don't Forget About Us' falls one spot to #15, while 'Shake It Off' falls two to #34.

On the album front; in it's 47th week, 'The Emancipation of Mimi' disappears from the top 50 again. However, the album still remains strong on the urban chart at #8. The album has left the top 50 once before only to return a week later. Hopefully the support of Get Your Number will be enough to return the album back to the chart.

Title: Review: 'Get Your Number' Video
Source: Herald Sun, Melbourne | Mariah Australia
    Updated by: Joe

MARIAH Carey videos never let you down when it comes to her fabric-dodging. Here she pours herself into a canary yellow PVC dress that looks like something from the lost-property box at Hugh Hefner's house.

When she's not posing on a novelty-sized telephone (get it, it's called Get Your Number) wearing, well, not much, she's in a pink business suit, straddling a huge couch and minus those pesky pants. Oh, Mariah.

Of Note: Cameron Adams wrote this review, and until recently he was very favorable towards Mariah Carey and her music. Recently however, this has changed. The result has been bad publicity by Cameron.

To leave feedback to the Herald Sun regarding Cameron's obvious bias towards Mariah, visit www.heraldsun.com.au and select 'Post Your Feedback' in the services menu on the left hand side.
