Samoyed Success
Stories
These Samoyeds have luckily all found New Loving Permanent Homes. 2nd-Feb-2012 Updated Name: Bravo Age:
3yr old male Samoyed
Bravo is coming into care as his owners were no longer able to look after him. He has been staying "temporarily" with family members but has only been allowed to stay outside at this accomodation and the fencing was poor. After one of the wettest years in Sydney for a very long time and without adequate attention, excercise, grooming or shelter. His coat deteriorated and he's gone exploring a few times to get some attention. Bravo's coat unfortunately had to be shaved (before we got him!). So he's looking a bit odd for a samoyed at the moment. It will take 6-12 months to grow back. But with a healthy diet it will come back looking great. ![]() Bravo is an active boy and has grown up with kids though lately he has mainly been left to his own devices and not got the much needed attention he deserves. He hadn't been walked for over 6 months. Consequently when he did get on a lead he got super excited. After 6 months it became clear that a new more permanent arrangement had to be found. The family have generously sponsored a 3 week training course at Hanrob in the hope of finding him the best home possible. Bravo has had the Training for Life Program: http://www.hanrob.com.au/sydney/services/dog-training/training-for-life/ Part of the already paid for course allowes for 2 private lessons in your home (valued at $300) if you are based within their Sydney area boundaries. This will allow you to go over some of the points of his training and ensure that you can follow through with his training so that you can get the best out of this boy. You will need to be able to commit to walking him daily so that he continues to get appropriate excercise, build muscle condition back and get appropriate stimulation. Bravo would very much like to be part of someone's life and be allowed back inside. ![]() ![]() ![]() Bravo will be finishing his training course on the 17th January. He will then be transported to us in Wyong and have his vet work done including being heartworm tested, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and de-sexed. 18/1/2012 - Well, The Man is here! "Bravo". After a long car trip we finally made it home. His training course was reasonablly successful. Like any true Sammy he needs to understand you are the leader, but he does understand how to do things. With his presonal trainer she demonstrated "Heel", "Sit", "Down", "Stay" and his release is two claps and "okay". With Sammie's you each have to build a repore to work in harmony. ie. He can be a bit stubborn and aloof until he realises he wont get away with it. Once you have that respect he's quite well behaved. He will require someone that will allow him to be part of the family, include him in their day to day lives, and will re-enforce his training. This way, you will get the most love and fun out of this boy. The clipping job, is probably one of the better ones I've seen and there is about an inch of coat left over his body. Thankfully this will protect his skin from the sun! He's a little on the skinny side (19kg) at the moment so he will be wormed again and "fattened" up a bit. I would like to see him at about 24-25kg for his height. With a better quality diet and some regular excercise to build muscle that should come back pretty quick. Whilst at Hanrob he was playing nicely with other de-sexed females and wasn't overly dominant when intorduced to a male beagle whilst on lead. Bravo is off to the vets shortly to get de-sexed and wormed and be checked out by them. 22/1/12 - Bravo is settling in nicely and starting to understand the routines here. He's has had all his vet work done and will get his stitches out on the 27th. He does get excited and bouncy when we get home or put a lead on him. But if you are sitting down relaxing he will come and get cuddles and pats and then find a spot out of the way to rest and is reasonably quiet. He's proving to be independent and enjoys his space but likes to be near where he can see what's going on. He is sleeping quietly through the night. On lead with a soft collar he does pull you around and can be ignorant of what you say. When walked with a gentle correctly fitted check chain or halti he is much easier to walk. Infact his 'heel' can be so close he's leaning against you. When left on his own in a yard or our sunroom, he is being quiet and not doing any silly barking. He doesn't seem to need to have interaction with the other dogs and will be okay as an only dog again (if he gets appropriate human interaction, ie with someone who is retired or works from home). He is however gentle and social and does play with the other dogs. At this stage I wouldn't recommend him to someone who wants to go to off lead parks straight away as he will need time to develop a good bond with his new forever owner and learn how to do a recall. Long leads at dog parks will be fine though. Most of all this boy just wants to be part of someone's day to day life. He would be happy sitting with you around the house but would need a consistent firm leader to take him out a give him a daily controlled walk. 2/2/12 - Bravo has had his stitches out, been given the all clear by vets and has now gone on trial. Name:
Phoenix Age:
6.5 months
Male Samoyed
**** Phoenix top left - Tag you're it!
12/1/12 –
Phoenix is a lovely Samoyed with a lot of playful
energy. At
this stage he’s not showing any dominant
characterisitics and is playing well with both our
male and female resident Samoyeds here. His
favourite is of course our own female 6month old
puppy. They have been having immense fun playing
“tag, you’re it”. He
knows how to sit for pats and to let you put his
collar and lead on.
On lead he gets excited to be out and about
and wants to explore everything. He will
require someone who is willing to do some more basic
obedience training with him and teach him to walk a
bit more gently on a lead. When you
let him off the lead, whoosh he’s gone for a big
high speed run. He circles you and keeps coming back
to check in. Luckily
he’s happy to come back for cuddles just as quickly
so there is the start of a good recall. Since he
is so social and loves a good run, he would be
suited to someone who likes going to off lead dog
parks. This
way he will continue to get socialization and be
allowed to burn off some of his energy
![]()
Phoenix is
looking for a home that ideally has already got a
female Samoyed for him
to play with. He will only be re-homed to someone
who has previously owned Samoyeds and understands
their needs. .
He is also good at playing leap frog over the
other dogs, so not suited to someone with kids under
the age of 5. You
need to be prepared to take him to puppy classes so
he continues his education and socialization. This is a
lovely boy, that came from a family based Samoyed
breeder, is well socialised and he
deserves a knowledgeable forever home. 13/1 –
Phoenix is off to the groomers and vets today. So he can
share more Sammy love around! Actually
he will be getting vaccinated, heartworm treated,
wormed, C5 vaccinated, flea treated and of course
de-sexed. He
will be available for meeting and greeting from
14/1/12. His
adoption costs will be $750 as per puppy adoption
costs. You
will need to have filled in an adoption
questionnaire to be considered to adopt Phoenix. It will
NOT be first in first served, but the most suited
home for Phoenix.
To apply for Phoenix please contact us via
email: nswsamoyedrescue@gmail.com The
adoption questionnaire and processes are located
under the “adopting” page of this website. 14/1/12 - Phoenix is
behaving very well inside. He's occassionally
jumped up on the couch (to get cuddles) but other wise
is doing well. He has a great recall (loves
cuddles) and sits for pats. He will jump up if
you let him or he gets over excited but understands if
you say down and sit. He's enjoyed eating his
bones and loves playing with Kayley. If we can
keep him out of the pond it will be even better!
Our only concern is he's not meant to be getting his
stitches wet and he loves water. All going well
with this little boy and he will make someone a
gorgeous sammy addition to the right knowledgeable
family. He has had a good start at toilet/house
training and is about 70% there. Obviously putting him
in a new environemtn has set him back a little but the
basics are there. 21/1/12 - Pheonix is off to his
new forever home, with Dakota a 5month old female
samoyed and 6 kids to play with! Yeah for
Pheonix! Name: Okami Age: 4 1/2 years
Female, desexed4/1/2012 - Okami has come
into care as her previous elderly owner was unable to
give her the appropriate Sammy care that she needed.
Over the last 6 months she hasn't been walked so is a
smidge overweight, if it was muscle I wouldn't
complain. She would ideally be walked daily to
help her improve her muscle tone and condition.
She has been around indoor and out door cats and is
gentle with them. She doesn't appear to have a
prey drive but does like to go off exploring on her
own. She is independent in nature and would be
fine as an only child as long as she was allowed inside
and part of the family when you were home. Due to
the owner not being able to groom her sufficiently she
was taken to a local groomer that wasn't too Sammy
Savvy. He sadly has shaved her trousers, feathers
and tail. At least the top and sides remain so
that she can still regulate her heat and not burn her
sensitive pink skin. She does however look a bit
out of proportion because of this. Her training
seems only very basic. She can walk on lead and sit when
asked. She does however have a gentle nature and
takes food slowly and considerately from your
hand. She allows you to touch her all over and
look in her mouth. She's loves the car, and was an angel
on the 5 hour trip home here. She also of course loves
cuddles and will even quite happily sit on your lap if
you let her!
Name: Chekhov Age: 3 years young Male, desexed. Gorgeous big happy grin, this boy is waiting to give his new family big cuddles! ![]() Chekhov sits well, walks on a lead, comes when he is called and will sit for his food when asked. He will "go outside", through the dog door when told and understands the pointing finger. He is also house trained with no accidents. He travels well in the car (loves the car more than life itself!) but has not had exposure to cats or small animals, so we are not sure how he'd go with them. He is very affectionate and loves cuddles. He also loves to just be with you and will hang out on the sofa or at your feet. He chews his toys but has not chewed anything else, and like all Samoyeds likes to dig himself a crater to sleep in on hot days. He is not excessive with the digging though - he has made one "bed" under a hedge and has stuck to that. He sleeps outside (under cover) at night on a trampoline bed with the other three Sammies here and is quiet at night. Chekhov is eating cooked rice and vegetables plus dry dog food most nights, but they also eat leftovers and Chekhov eats everything. Sadly he was "de-barked" by a previous owner who left him alone in an apartment all day, so while he could be yappy when excited, he has no voice so makes very little sound. He is gentle with the kids and likes watching over them as they have an afternoon nap, or even better cuddling you on the couch with them. Chekhov is a
well mannered and bred dog. He would be okay as an only
dog, provided he was allowed inside when you were home and
made part of the family, or could be homed with ideally
female Samoyed, or other submissive male samoyeds.
Chekhov is ready to go to his new permanent home. He
has had his vet work done (microchip sorted, vaccinated,
wormed, desexed etc.) Would you like this gorgeous
cuddly bear to be your Santa's helper? 10/12/11 - Chekhov is now in temporary foster care in Kogarah Bay. He's getting along well with a 1yr old male Samoyed that he is fostering with. This morning they had immense fun playing in the mud, so he needs to be washed again before people come and cuddle him! 17/12/11 - Chekhov has been groomed and passed all his assessments with flying colours. He will start meeting his new potential owners this week, to hopefully go on trial over Xmas. 19/12/11 - Chekhov went on trial today with a lovely family. Xmas kisses from Chekhov all around. Name: Sunny Sunny will have a wonderfully Merry Xmas with her new Family. ARRROOOO!
3/10/11 - Sunny has been taken
from her previous owner in dire straits. The
owner decided to advertise her as FTGH, instead of
treating her, or disclosing there was a medical
problem, until she was about to be transported into
care and started suddenly displaying symptoms. She has
come into care with an unknown medical condition and
is a very sick little girl that is quite obviously in
pain. Sunny has spent the last few days in intensive
care due to the neglect she received. After a
series of medical tests and IV fluids the vets
couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. In
desperation she was taken to the RSPCA emergency
facilities in the hope of saving her. NSW Samoyed
Rescue and their foster carers are truly 5/10/11 - Sunny became progressively
worse, continuing to throw up and was no longer able
to walk. Further x-rays and ultrasounds were performed
by the RSPCA and no clear diagnosis could be found.
Every effort was made to make her comfortable, but she
continued to worsen. A lot of conditions were ruled out but no
way to help her was found. Drugs to stop her throwing
up had stopped working and she had lost a further 2
liters of fluids. In desperation they operated,
knowing she may not make it through a surgery.
She continued to throw up whilst under
anesthetic and tested the skills of the surgeons at
the RSPCA. After over 4 hours of surgery they had
finally cleared out the mess from in and around her
bowels. Perforations were sutured and the massive cut
to open her up and clean her out was finally closed.
It was then a waiting game to see if she could
recover. 8/10/11 - We feel Sunny has finally shown
us that there is hope. She had a small walk
today, has had her first solid food and has even given
a few big Sammy tail wags. Through all her
prodding, blood testing, urine tests, xrays,
ultrasounds; though clearly in pain, Sunny never
showed any objection or resistance. She
continued to stay gentle, even when pushed trying to
locate the pain. She truly is a very special
girl, and we hope she continues to show her strength
and courage to fight and get better. Sunny will
remain in hospital for a few more days before she can
come into monitored home foster care. 10/10/11 - Unfortunately as feared, Sunny
has developed pneumonia. Due to her inhaling bile
whilst throwing up, and under anesthetics. She now has
fluid on her lungs which has allowed a further
infection to develop there. She has been put on
further antibiotics to help. Though sunny is quite ill
she remains happy to see people and is wagging her
tail at any attention. She is keen for cuddles
and is certainly trying her best to overcome her
troubles. Sunny will stay in hospital for a
while longer so that she can continue to stay on IV
antibiotics. Staff are loving her nature and
she's winning hearts all over. 12/10/11 - Sunny has shown improvement again
in the last 24hours. She has now had her first poo
since her massive surgery. Who would have thought we'd
be excited at seeing poo! She is keeping solid foods
down and has swapped over to oral antibiotics so the
drips could be removed. There is a definite Sammy grin
back and lots of wagging tails when staff and friends
approach. She's getting lots of cuddles from the
nurses, vets and volunteers. They all say she's a
special little girl. She's up and walking slowly and
we feel she's making positive progress. We are hoping
she can come out of hospital soon! She still has
fluid on her lungs and will require on-going physio
for a few weeks to help loosen it. However we
are starting to think this little girl is a fighter
and we are turning the corner and heading in the right
direction. 14/10/10 - Sunny had a brush and walk
today. She is still struggling with fluid on her
lungs and is still getting antibiotics. She
requires another small surgery, but they we are
waiting for the current sutures to heal and for her
chest infection to clear up before she goes under
anaesthetic again. She's blowing coat at the
moment and is enjoyed getting a bit of pampering. 21/10/11 - Sunny is FINALLY out of
hospital. Her stitches are out and the
(massively long) scar is starting to look a lot
better. There is also a sprinkling of fur growing back
over her tummy. She still needs another surgery (to be
desexed), but we've decided to bring her home first
and let her recover properly from the last one before
the next one. We know she will recover quicker
and be better off in a home environment. She is now up
and walking around and has met the other permanent
samoyeds here. Hopefully we can convince her to
play gently in the next few days. Tomorrow we hope to
brush her and finish stripping out her old dead coat
and hopefully give her a gentle wash cloth "bath" to
get rid of the hospital smell and make her feel a
little bit better. We are yet to tally up the
vet bills. We're to scared to look! With the
extended stay in hospital on top of the surgery they
are adding to a scary figure. But today, we are
just happy to be able to bring her home and know that
she is definitely over the worse of everything.
Positive thinking, everything can only get
better for this lovely girl now! We are looking
forwartd to seeing her true personality shine through
now that she's feeling a bit better and discovering
what sort of Sammy she will be. So she's now had her
dinner, some extra treats and lots of cuddles.
She was good in the car home and is now resting
right near us. Happy Sammy smiles all around
here, and a big sigh of relief. She's a tough
little cookie with a lovely temperament. 26/10/11 - Sunny is going well. She
is dropping / losing a lot of her coat at the moment.
It seems to be coming out in big patches.
So we are slowly brushing her in sections and trying
not to pull her skin, so it doesn't affect or hurt her
scars. The scar is healing very well and we are
pleased all round with her progress. We hope to
give her a proper hydrobath wash on the weekend if it
warms up again. Sunny is proving to be very
independent of the other dogs here. She would
much prefer to be in human company, and as such would
probably be fine as an only dog. Where you go,
she goes. It doesn't matter if you are cooking
dinner, mucking the horse stables and trying to sweep
her out or getting something out of car. She's
quieter and less energetic than Rocky and is sleeping
quietly through the night. Sunny is currently
slightly protective of her food. Not surprising
considering the conditions she was living in.
She's starting to learn the routines here, and
is realising she is now getting regularly fed, so she
is slowly starting to learn to share. We imagine Sunn
30/10/11 - Well doesn't Sunny look
gorgeous now! The poor little girl may have over
done it a bit today. We have spent hours finally
getting the last of the dead coat, mess left over from
surgery and mats out. We then gave her a
hydrobath and a blow dry. She even managed a
slow walk on the lead and a little bit of an excited
run. I think she was happy to be clean and get rid of
the mess. She's whimpered a bit this afternoon
and you can tell she's very tired. She's spent the
majority of the afternoon asleep at my feet.
Thankfully she smells a lot better now. She
still has away to go, but she is getting better
slowly. Sunny will still need to be desexed and
have her rear dewclaws removed prior to being rehomed.
But things are looking up for this lovely little
girl. She is still showing a calm disposition
and would ideally suit a quiet home where she will be
allowed inside and part of the family.
10/12/11 - Poor sunny had another hiccup whilst getting desexed. The vets decided to have another look around whilst she was getting desexed, since she was obviously a lot healthier now and tolerating the anaesthetics. When removing the ovaries and uterus they discovered another stick was still inside her. It was amzingly completely covered in scar tissue and had been encapsulated thus protecting the organs it was pressing up against. This is seriously one tough little girl that certainly has a reason that she still needs to be here. The ends were pressing up against her aorta and spleen. Both were lightly bruised but not punctured, which would have been fatal if they had of been. I think we need to change her name to Lucky!!! To think she has been so excited and running around and going for walks. Poor little girl. So she's spending a few days in intensive care again under observation. But all going well now she will make a full and even better recovery and be going home to her new permanent family by the end of the weekend. She certainly will havea much deserved Merry Xmas in a loving new home. ![]() Name: Rocky Age: 4 years 3/10/11 - Rocky came into care. 5/10/11 - Energetic dog that still thinks he's a puppy. Everything is exciting and new. His previous owners don't appear to have done much with him. He plays well with the other female dogs here and a submissive female. He likes to playful pounce on other dogs, so other dominant dogs don't always appreciate this. He just doesn't realise that everyone else might not want to play with him. He has excess energy and would require someone that was willing to actively walk him, and preferrably run him every day. He is otherwise not a destructuve puppy and doesn't mind being on his own. Just expect a lot of excited cuddles when you get home. Age: 3 years, 7 days 7/9/11 - Duchess is an affectionate girl, searching for cuddles. She would ideally suit someone who is at home most of the time as she loves to spend time with her human family. She has grown up with other dogs both smaller and larger and appears well socialised, but independent of other dogs. Her priority is human companionship. She is quite at home curled up on the couch with you. She sleeps quietly through the night in the bedroom and apppears to be house trained. She would do well with an owner that understands her need for more leadership and will reinforce some basic training. Duchess is an active girl and loves her walks. She also enjoys going to the beach. She travels well in the car and would love to go on family trips and included in everyday activities. Duchess will require regular grooming to brush her long, soft coat and daily excercise of at least 30min active walking. She will need to be included in daily family activities and would do best with another samoyed for company. ![]() Name: Jasper Age: 10months 28/8/11 - Jasper is an acitve and bouncy boy with a great cheeky attitude. He is all about play and wants desperately to be included in everyday life. He has been professionally trained and knows commands to recall, sit, come, drop, stand and walks very nicely on the lead. He is however still a big bouncy young boy and can get over excited when first meeting. Due to this we would recommend a home without cats and no children under the age of 5years. Jasper has been well bred and comes with pedigree papers. Jasper will require someone who is willing to actively walk and preferably run him everyday, take him to dog parks, and where he will be allowed inside and part of the family so that its not all such an excitment when someone comes into the backyard. Jasper is also a very social and playful boy and as such would require another dog (preferrably samoyed) to play with to help burn off some of that puppy energy. Name: Laika Age: 4 years 27/6/11 - Gorgeous, gentle purebred Samoyed
girl. She has grown up with cats and a baby.
She's a little shy and nervous at the moment, but has
done a big trip from her owners today. She is well
behaved, house-trained, knows how to walk on lead, comes
when called and doesn't run away. She likes to
snuggle on the couch and your bed. This is a
special little girl, looking for a special new forever
home. Laika will continue to under go assessments whilst
she settles in here, to determine the most appropriate
new home for her. 29/7/11 - Laika is slowly
coming out of her shell and is starting to show her
cheeky Samoyed nature. Though unsure of what's
going and where she is, she's now running around the
property with her tail up. She's finally starting
to instigate play with the other dogs here and is
starting to gain confidence. Laika is a beautiful
dog to have around. She is currently more people
focused, than interested in the other dogs, though she
has shown more play bows in the last hour, so I suspect
her true nature is still yet to shine through.
Though Laika's original family obviously were struggling
with providing her the financial basics such as adequate
vet care, they obvioulsy dearly loved her and did spend
time with her. She is well mannered, has a
gorgeous little howl and soft, gentle play bark. She
sleeps quietly through the night, but is most obviously
use to sleeping on the bed with her mum. As soon
as we open the bedroom door to go to bed, she's on the
bed with no hesitation. The couch also is claimed
as Sammy property, without hesitation. She appears
to be little pampered and I suspect may have mastered
the big Samoyed brown eyes that can melt the most
hardened heart and has such possibly been getting away
with too many luxuries. She is slowly starting to
be convinced to eat "dog food", but is only willing to
eat it if being hand fed. Food off our dinner plates
seems to go down without hesitation. So she seems
to have some nice tricks "up her sleeve" to master the
best options. I think she may have trained her
previous owners as much as they trained her. In
saying that she has a gorgeous nature and I'm sure we
will continue to have a few laughs at what other funny
Samoyed antics she can get up to.
Laika has always been part of a loving family, lived mainly indoors, but with access to a courtyard and family with young children about. The family also included an older labrador, several cats and she has even "mothered" a litter of orphaned kittens. Her previous family said she was even letting them suckle on her (dry) 31/7/11 - Well Laika is
certainly coming out of her shell and instigating a lot
more play. Shes having loads of fun running around
the property, jumpin in the pond and the bath tubs,
tearing through the grass and now has a big Sammy grin
and tail up. We've also finally won on the feeding
issue and she is now eating out of a dog bowl cooked
chicken mince. We haven't convinced her on the
veggies yet though. So she's off to the groomers
tomorrow to make her look even cuter! (Is that
possible!) We've also discovered that Laika loves
the car! We played a new game today....how many
Samoyeds can we fit into a NEW yaris. Very funny.

FOR PAWS RESCUE***![]() Please note Maya has been
rescued from Hawkesbury pound where she was handed in as
a stray. She is owned by PAWS rescue.
1/8/11 - Maya is a really nice young Samoyed girl, 11
months old and very playful. She is very responsive and
already knows "sit", "shake" and "come", and would learn
really quickly with further training. She will definately need to be rehomed with another dog with the same energy level as she has, and does not do well to being left for too long alone. Another dog would be company for her and provide exercise which is really needed tu burn off some of that puppy energy. She is gentle and does not bark unless left alone and can hear you, but can't join in. She would need to be allowed in the house and be a part of the family. Maya would be very good with older children but is a bit bouncy for toddlers. Maya will not be adopted interstate unfortunately. She will need the normal grooming that all samoyeds need and has in the past had part of her coat shaved, as it is just starting to grow back through. Maya is micro chipped, vaccinated, has had her heartworm check and has been desexed and is ready to go to her own new home. 8/8/11 - Maya is now in foster care with a Samoyed Rescue foster carer and has passed her assessments and had all her vet work done. She is however still owned by PAWS. She has definately had basic training and knows how to fetch a ball and even brings it back. Maya is very keen to make you happy. Maya is also prooving to be great with the multitude of cats at her new foster home. Some dogs would find the numerous amount of cats there to be totally overwhelming but she just has a few sniffs or ignores them. She is very calm inside, just lays at your feet, happy to be with you. She gets on with all the dogs at doggy day care, where she goes for a play and is really the loveliest dog. Her foster carer has said she's one of the loveliest samoyeds she's fostered and is even tempted to keep her but feels she would be best suited toa home with another samoyed to play with. ![]()
My name is Chachi,
And I am a 1 Year 5
Month old , Desexed Male , Samoyed
Chachi has
already had at least two homes, but hopefully it
will be third time lucky for this loveable young
dog. He is a typical young Samoyed with loads of
energy, and personality to match. He will be best
suited to a home with another young dog (ideally a
female samoyed), as he loves to play. In true
Samoyed style, he loves human company and needs a
home where he can be treated as part of the family
and allowed inside. He has had some training but
needs some consistency in his life as he matures
to help him learn some more doggy manners and help
him through his teenage years. Chachi is not
suited to a home with young children at this
stage, as he can be a bit mouthy and energetic
when playing, however with further training and
adequate exercise, this behaviour will improve.
Chachi is great with other dogs, but can be a bit
over enthusiatic with cats, and it is not
recommended that he go to a
home with a cat that is not used to dogs. Chachi's
coat has been neglected and it will take several
months of extra care to get it into good
condition. Grooming will be a lifelong commitment
to keep him looking his very best. "I began counting down the days for his arrival and on Monday 23/5/11 I was so excited to be finally picking him up from the airport. As soon as I saw him he reminded me of a big teddy bear and off we went to his new home with us. Chachi is a very well adapted boy. He met my girls (Sasha and Candy) and took to them straight away. My Candy girl was a little unsure at first as she has always been the dominant Samoyed in my house and now both Chachi and Candy both want to be the dominant ones. They still play together, share their toys and bed and Candy is slowly backing down and letting Chachi be the dominant one, although she lets him know when enough is enough. Having Chachi is like having a toddler child... He's in the process of toilet training, he chews his toys, extremely playful and energetic, and I've learnt that I've had to share my bed with him! But most of all he is sweet, adorable and lovable. Adopting a Samoyed is very rewarding, the only problem is that I think I may have started something which I cannot stop." "Chachi

Misha
****Thank You to S.Ambrose for her donation
towards Misha's Blacktown pound release fees***
& ***K.Onley for her donation that helped pay for Misha's extra vet treatments whilst in care**** Age: 10 years young 8-2-11 Misha has been rescued out of Blacktown Pound after her owners decided to surrender her as they couldn't afford to get her out or pay the fines. Misha clearly hasn't been brushed anytime recently. She was covered in large tennis ball sized mats and fleas and came into care in a badly neglected state. We have unfortunately had to shave her tummy, legs, and most of her bum as she wasn't tolerating being brushed and was too stressed out. So right now she doesn't look like the pretty Samoyed she should/could be, as she's very patchy. ![]() 10-2-11 Misha went to the vets last night and though still very dirty she has been given a clean bill of health. She is still quite spritely and quick to move around. She knows how to sit, lie down, shake hands, come when called and walk on lead. She has been with other smaller dogs and been allowed inside at night in her previous home. Misha is eager for attention and desperately looking for someone who will love her and understand her. She would love to spend her twilight years keeping you company. She is a small Samoyed girl, looking to please and doesn't deserve to be in the condition she was in or to be in pound. She will make a lovely little family dog if given a chance to show her true Sammy nature. She will require someone who will spend the time to brush her and not let her get back into this horrible state. Misha has now been washed and as you can see by comparing the photos to the video is a totally new girl that is very lucky to get a 2nd chance. Please note this video may break your heart when you see all the mats of fur hanging off her. But as you can see this little girl really just wants to please and be loved. This video was taken by a volunteer, and even with a stranger she quickly does what she is told, of course treats always help ;) She is now groomed, flea-treated, microchipped, vet checked, vaccinated, wormed and desexed. She is available for interstate adoption. If you feel you could make a suitable new forever home, then please email us at nswsamoyedrescue@gmail.com so that you can get an adoption questionnaire. Misha is now in temporary foster care, and eagerly looking for her forever home. 19-2-11 Misha is very active for her age. She loves going for car trips and is in the car quicker than lightening. She loves going for walks, doesnt pull on the lead and is fine being left inside whilst her carers are at work. She is currently fostering with 10+ cats (kitten season is apon us) though wary as they all have her bluffed by bashing her up, she is otherwise fine with all the cats running around the house. She's not interested in doing a lot of playing wth the younger dogs, but prefers to be with you, following you around. She's quiet and much happier girl now. She's doesn't appear to need other dogs around and is fairly independent in nature. Name:
Casper
Age: 18mths-2yrs old pure male Casper is also on the
skinny side and needing brushing and washing. He
is more cuddly than Bella and thinks he's a bit of a
lap dog. He walks well on lead. He is currently
a bit stressed and would love to have someone give him
some TLC and make him part of the family. He
will require another dog for company as is use to
having Bella around and does like to follow her
around. He has grown up an outside dog but would
like to be included inside in daily activities.
2-2-11
Casper is a lot more
submissive in his temperament and can be cautious, but
always friendly. He is more concerned in getting
cuddles (If you can get Bella to stop blocking him)
than eating and will leave his food to come back for
attention. You can easily hand feed him, and he seems
to prefer this to eating out of a bowl. I
suspect Bella has previously been pinching what little
food they got. He quickly gives up his food if
you or another dogs walks near. He follows Bella and
the other Samoyeds around the property copying what
they do, but as yet hasn't ventured out on his own and
"left the pack". He is better on lead than Bella as he
instinctively wants to stay close to you. He happily
sits next to you if we go and sit on the back lawn. He
does come when called, but then he doesn't usually
have to come far. He is also picking up the new
routines, by copying Bella, but seems to be taking a
little longer to settle in and come out of his
shell. Casper has now been fully stripped out
and has been washed. He was terrified of the
hydro-bath and obviously has never been professionally
groomed. In the end he figured out it wasn't too
bad but was very happy when we toweled him off.
He enjoyed being brushed and getting one on one
attention with Bella out of reach. Casper has
extremely long dew claws that most probably have never
been cut before. We've trimmed them back but he
may need to get his rear ones surgically removed when
he gets desexed on Friday. Casper will definitely need
to go to a home with another dog and would benefit
from positive training methods as I suspect previous
owners have been a bit to rough for his nature.
He was dropped off with a big heavy choker chain on
him, but I can't see why he would need such a severe
collar.
Casper will be
available for adoption and will come groomed,
microchipped, vet checked, vaccinated, wormed and
desexed. If you feel you could make a suitable new
forever home, then please email us at
nswsamoyedrescue@gmail.com so that you can get an
adoption questionnaire. His adoption cost is
$495. Casper is now in temporary
foster care and is located in Wyong, NSW.
3-2-11 Casper has been dropped off to the vets tonight for checking and desexing tomorrow. We gave him a play with all 5 dogs here before hand and he was happy following everyone around until he figured out he could get cuddles. Once he realises he can get cuddles, he'll happily hang around as long as possible wanting more. He is very gentle to take food when hand fed and appears to not be phased by the older more dominant male German Shepard here. Casper: "Its been a hard day, and these tiles are nice and cool" Casper is finally coming inside willingly and is starting to walk around with his tail up and a bit more spring in his step. We've had some very hot days and I think he's appreciated the cooler house temperatures and air-conditioning. He has started following my husband around the house and yard and seems to be bonding with him (Jackson's been whispering in his ear who he has to convince to stay..hahahhaha). He has a lovely quiet nature and enjoys getting cuddles. With a bit more basic training, this little boy will make a lovely 'mans best friend', he really is a little 'friendly white ghost'. Casper shaking hands with Scott. Little Acacia underneath being oh so good at getting Casper to come out of his shell and letting him know he's safe here. 10-2-11
Casper is on his way to mastering the dog door. He's starting to learn how to sit, shake hands, high five and start on house training. Name:
Bella
Age:
4 years
Bella is a pedigree papered female. She has been surrendered in due to owners inability to look after her. As such she is a bit on the skinny side and in need of A LOT of brushing and a bath. She has grown up with a houseful of kids and is gentle to take food but excitable to get attention. She has previously only been an outside dog and recently due to new additions to the family has had very little interaction or attention. She does sit and walk on lead but is in need of someone who would be willing to make her part of the family so its not such a big excitement to get some attention. She is currently jumping up over Casper to get the most attention and she is the more dominant one of the pair. Bella will be available for adoption and will be groomed, microchipped, vet checked, vaccinated, wormed and desexed. If you feel you could make a suitable new forever home, then please email us at nswsamoyedrescue@gmail.com so that you can get an adoption questionnaire. Her adoption cost is $495. Bella is now in temporary foster care and is located in Wyong, NSW. 2-2-11 Bella has settled in well and is definitely the leader of the two. She's the typical Sammy "its all about me". She's first in for pats and loves running around off lead on our new property. She comes when called and will sit for pats, but does occasionally jump up in excitement. Once over her initial excitement of people getting home she settles quickly again and is happy following me around and "helping" check on the horses water troughs. If one needs filling she will come and test the new water but then happily lies down within short distance and supervises what's going on. We have put her with other Samoyeds and she currently appears to be only slightly dominant with other female dogs but is also starting to instigate play. She still has things to learn, but seems to have the ability to pick up new routines quickly. Bella seems reasonably independent in nature and will go off to explore and stash toys. We have started stripping her out, she's not to impressed with having her tummy or bum brushed but she is also heavily matted. She did give up in the end and her brushing is about 1/2 done. We are brushing her in stages to remove the dense mats around her tummy so that her skin doesn't get too affected and to avoid having to shave her. She seems to be willing jumping into the hydro-bath to get her feet wet, though in this heat do you blame her wanting to get wet! Bella is available for separate adoption to Casper and is also available for interstate adoption. Her vet work will be completed on Thursday 3/2/11 and she will be available to go on trial from Saturday 5/2/11. 3-2-11 Bella is about 95% stripped out now. Next step for her will be a bath. Today Bella was a perfect Angel at the vets. Not a whimper for her blood tests or vaccinations. The vets and nurses all thought she was very cute and well behaved. Bella was just glad to be out and about seeing things and meeting new people. She remained calm at the vets and was well behaved when harnessed into the car. We have now introduced her to some more dominant dogs both male and female and she seems to take all in her stride, not seeming phased at all. We have started to bring her inside and she has had fun exploring the cupboards and discovering all the new things inside. 6-2-11 Bella has now been washed and fully groomed. She's gone on trial today with another Samoyed and lovely family. Eski (~4years) Eski is bursting with character!
The bundle of fur is a bundle of fun and will bring
you hours of enjoyment and amusement. However Eski
does have his own needs and in return for being a
great companion Eski would like very regular walks, a
cool place to sleep and tug toys. He is a beautiful
dog who really enjoys human company. He will require
regular grooming.Name: D'Amour Age: 4 years D'Amour is a big cuddly teddy bear. He's happy hanging out with you and has a laid back personality. He doesn't appear to bark and is very quiet. He is currently being held in very temporary accommodation in a unit with 3 small dogs and a bird to stop him going to a kill pound at Xmas time. He has been surrendered in as his owner has moved overseas and was unable to take him with them. He was previously living with another small dog and was allowed inside with the family. He comes with pedigree papers from a well recognised Victorian breeder. We are unsure of the extent of his training, but given a few treats he will pick things up quickly. 29-12-10 -
D'Amour had to be moved into care today, as he was
just too big for the small unit he was temporarily
in. He's again in a temporary enclosure, but at
least there is grass under his feet and he's not in
a pound being PTS. D'Amour is a BIG chunky
puppy. Even with his size though he can
certainly run...for short distances. He needs to
loose some weight. You can clearly see he's been
living an indoor dog and given lots of treats and
not enough walks. He is heavily matted and
still needs his winter coat to be stripped
out. Tomorrow will be spent trying to strip
him out and getting his vet work done. He has
been introduced to the other Samoyeds here and no
signs of dominance, just lots of running around
excited with the room here. D'Amour needs to have
someone willing to do some training with him, but he
definitely has a lovely temperament. He walks
reasonably well on the lead for his size and doesn't
seem to pull. His car trip here he sat quitely in
the wagon boot. He certainly doesn't deserve the
fate he was almost given. With a little bit of
love, some proper grooming and someone to teach him
some basic tricks he will make a gorgeous family
dog.
![]() Name: LEO Age: 2.5years old Leo is a handsome and well mannered boy. He has grown up a single dog and is very independent in personality. He struts around the yard knowing he's gorgeous. Leo has come into care on Xmas day due to no fault of his own. Unfortunately his owner is too unwell to look after him after a series of serious medical problems. He is well trained and groomed. He has grown up with teenage kids, bunnies, cats and birds. All of which he takes in his casual loping stride. He is well bred, and comes with pedigree papers. He has a complete medical history as well with his paper work. Leo is a much loved family member that they have asked us to find a new home for him where he can continue to get the dedicated attention he deserves. From his previous owners: "Leo is in good health. With him comes his pedigree papers, microchip document, medical history, previous immunisation certificates and his Obedience Training Certificate from the ACT Companion Dog Club.. About 34 digital photographs of Leo are in a folder. The photo’s start from when he was 4 weeks old. He loves his sandpit, wading pool, squeaky dog soft toy, squeaky ball, ball with rope handles and kong roly poly that the food comes out of. His favou rite
food
is raw chicken wings. I brush him every week, more in
moulting season. He often tries to play and make
it difficult for me to brush him especially if he
thinks I’m going to do his backside, chest or
feet. But a firmish cuddle hold on his back in
my lap and he’s soon off to sleep and doesn’t worry
about the brushing at all. He knows many words and can virtually have a conversation with you. He talks to me when I come home from work. Words he knows include sit, dinner, stay, walk, drop, down, stop, come, knock on the door (with his nose), shake hands, toy, toilet, bah!, give, no, yuk, OK. He almost knows, left, right, home, this way, no round the other way and heal. He tends to know heal when he wants to, so I don’t use it very often because I don’t like arguing with him and I haven’t really needed to use treats on a walk for a long time. He likes the long lead. I make it short on busy roads just in case. If he pulls I stand still and he comes back and stands next to me and if I still don’t move he sits and waits for me to move my left foot. If he does it correctly I quickly say ‘heal’ followed by ‘good boy’. He usually then looks up at me while continuing to walk next to me as if to ask ‘can I go now’. I answer that look with ‘yes’ ‘OK’ ‘off you go’. And he does and makes sure that the lead does not go tight. I haven’t done any off the lead training with Leo except for the occasional wait in the backyard sometimes with food but not for ages. He knows several hand signals like sit, stay, drop, stand and to walk to where I am pointing (these are normally practiced places – like the back door or the other side of the tree to unhook his lead, to Amanda’s room, outside, back gate, car etc). Leo will be groomed, vet checked, vaccinated, wormed and desexed. If you feel you could make a suitable new forever home, then please email us at nswsamoyedrescue@gmail.com so that you can get an adoption questionnaire. His adoption cost is $495. Leo is now in temporary foster care and is located in Wyong, NSW. Please note this is not a pet shop or pound. It is not first in first served. The most suitable home for Leo will be selected from the adoption questionnaires received. Leo is a gorgeous boy and deserves the best of homes. Lunar Lunar is a gorgeous 9 year old Samoyed bitch that was surrendered by her last owner and is now looking for her forever home. She has been vet-checked, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and de-flead. ![]() Lunar is great with children and other animals including dog, cats and horses. She loves nothing more than snoozing on my verandah for the day and laying at my feet in the evening. Due to her age she wouldn’t be suitable for someone who wants to walk 5 kms a day but please don’t let her fool you, she still has quite a few years left in her yet. Lunar is well socialised and knows the basics of sit, come, stay and beg (!!!) She is not destructive in any way, no chewed up shoes and holes to deal with and only barks when she excited which is usually when we get home and tea time. Lunar may need a little work on her toilet training, she had a slight uti when she arrived so I feel this may be the cause of her occasional accidents and shouldn’t be an issue in the future. Apart from that Lunar is highly affectionate and a pleasure to have around. She requires a home that will allow her to be part of the family and understands the needs of an elderly Samoyed. Thank You to Sally & Jenny for independently rescuing this girl from Hawkesbury pound and finding her a forever home. Age: 18months
![]() Willow has been saved from Renbury Farm Pound in Sydney recently by PAWS Dog Rescue. She is now in foster care in the Newcastle area and settling in very quickly. She is enjoying the company of the resident dogs and cats and is an absolute joy to have around. Willow is a typical Samoyed and loves a good run around the property when given the opportunity, but returns quickly when called. She is currently spending lots of time in the house and sleeps inside at night. Willow appears to already be toilet trained and learning her new boundaries. She is friendly, quiet and loves all human attention. She sits for treats and settles down easily at night. At the pound and during our vet assessment it was discovered that Willow has Luxating Patellas on the rear legs, which simply put means she has slipping kneecaps. She has now been to PAWS own very experienced vet and after several days of vet observation it has been decided not to operate at this stage. She is currently not in pain and most probably was born with the problem. Willow shows no sign of any discomfort or pain or even any restrictions on her activity, which is evident in her level of activity. Willow can run around as any normal dog can and is still very active and happy. It's certainly no reason to see her put to sleep at the pound. I have managed to take a couple of short videos for anyone interested and can forward them on by request. It must be pointed out to any potential adopter that Willow may or may not need an operation at a later date in her older years. A letter from the PAWS vet will be available as well as an offer to treat Willow at a reasonable rate in the future, should the need arise. At this stage though we see no need to operate as she is coping fine and enjoying life running around. Thank you to Sally & PAWS for helping find this gorgeous girl her forever home. Name: Bronte
Age: 12months
16-9-2010:
Bronte is an active young Samoyed girl. She was
surrendered into the pound because she chewed the pool
hose and kept getting up to mischief. She has been
luckily saved from the needle and is now sitting in
temporary foster accommodation. This poor little girl
is filthy and obviously starved for attention. When
will people realise that you can't just leave a
Samoyed in the backyard alone! Samoyeds love people.
She was bored, lonely and found something fun to
do. Bronte is an active girl and will require
someone who is willing to walk her daily. She gets
very excited and loves attention. She is in need of
reinforcing basic obedience and doggy manners.
So far we have worked out she knows how to sit, lay
down and come when called. As she is still a
puppy her attention span isn't too long, but she is
willing to try when focused and is food motivated.Bronte's next moves are to be groomed (she's in desperate need, you might mistake her for a rough collie she's so brown!), then some new photos to be taken once she looks like a white Samoyed again. She is also booked in for a crash "one on one" dog training course to reinforce basic training and of course she's due for lots of cuddles and attention. 18-8-10: Bronte is currently fostering with other resident dogs and is trying desperately to instigate play, though they are mostly just tolerating her as they are all much older than her. She is having fun running around the acreage and doesn't appear to be trying to escape. She is happy to be running around on a long lead at the moment. Her foster mum also has cats. Though she was initially chasing the cats when they ran, when told to stop she does, and if the cats stay still and ignore her then she in turn ignores the m.

She is currently fostering temporarily in the North Newcastle area, but will be brought to Sydney for adoption if and when required. Bronte is settling in well to foster care and is progressing well with further training. She has endured over 4 hours of brushing, 3 separate baths and a conditioning treatment. She has obvioulsy never had this done beore, but was very well behaved. She's finally looking a lot more white and fluffy. Her undercoat is still very dense and close knit to the skin. Over the next month with the warmer weather, and now that all the matting on top is gone, will loosen and start to be able to be stripped out properly. Her new owner will need to understand about grooming requirements and be able to continue to line brush her so that her coat can thin out for the warm summer. ![]() Name: Snowgirl

Please note Addy has not come into care due to neglect or abuse. She is a well socialised, happy, healthy and energetic puppy that has been donated into care to help raise money and awareness for rescue. She must be desexed, no exceptions will be allowed. 1-9-2010 Addy is currently doing a growth spurt and her legs are growing. Of course this gives her greater access to everything! She is a bundle of energy and causes endless laughter. She has a very inquisitive mind and is confident enough to try anything. She is now well on her way to learning "shake hands", "in the back", "drop", "up" and "off the couch". This girl picks things up quickly and loves playing with the adult dogs. 5-9-10 - Addy is due to be desexed on the 9th August and get her final vaccination this week. This has been delayed a week due to her having an upset tummy. Most probably due to having her nose somewhere she shouldn't. hahahaha. We are currently considering local only adoptions, where she will have another dog, preferably male, to play with as Addy will grow into an alpha female. 19-9-2010 - Addy has been permanently adopted and completed her trial.

Jess
Age:
18mths (DOB
9/1/2009)
4/7/10 - Jess
has been taken in by NSW Samoyed Rescue as she was
not sufficiently looked after by a backyard
breeder. She has been caged in a too small
"dog run" with straw bedding. She was fed a
poor diet and as such is very skinny at only 15kg
and has a very brittle coat. She hasn't had
any training and will need to be in care for at
least a month to let her put on some weight and
fully assess her abilities. Jess and Acacia have
both come in heavily matted with straw and filth
firmly stuck in their coats. They were both in
desperate need of urgent vet attention, grooming
and need a few weeks TLC to help them show their
true Sammy nature.9/7/10 - Is now fostering in Wentworthville, Sydney. She is a gorgeous looking girl now that she has been professionally groomed. She is lovely natured, more out-going in personality than Acacia and will be a fantastic family dog. She is already showing there is definately some brains in her head. 11/7/10 - Jess is progressing with her toilet training. She is looking for an active home that will interact it with her and keep her mind going. She travells well in car. Jess is a sweat girl. Comes when called begging for cuddles and rewards. Has good recall and potentially would make a good agility dog and is proving a quick learner. She understands "no" and sit. Jess loved being brushed for 2 hours whilst lying on the couch. Prime cuddle time! 16/7/10 - Jess has now been desexed. She is proving to be a quick learner and is eager to please and very food orientated. She has an amazing recall and has started doing off lead training. This girls has got soem serious brains and will make an amazing dog. 23/7/10 - We have not had an accident inside coming up to four days. She now understand 'wee'. She gets very excited because she knows she gets a treat. I think we may be over the hump and can nearly happily say she's house trained... She absolutely loves to run and I think given a choice, that is what she would like to do all day, every single day! She doesn't appear that interested in toys though. Jess has taken to sleeping in a bed really well. She knows that to get treats she has to be on a dog bed and she's just about got the 'stay out of the kitchen when I am getting food ready' down pat. She gets a little over eager but that will be helped by her understanding "stay". Jess has mastered sit and drop and we start work tonight on stay. She will jump up on everything but is now learning what down means. She's food crazy and when taking her bowl into the laundry, she will do complete turns of circles (like the dancing dogs) all the way to the laundry. She's very happy when she sees the lead come out. She's not a barky Sammy either, she gives very enthusiastic greetings, even if I've only been gone 10 minutes to see a neighbour. She now understands, "in the back" and will jump into the backseat of the car as you say it. She also understands back, as in, I'm going through the door before you so, back Jess and she will take a step back. After persisting with her, she now knows how to work a Kong, except she hasn't worked out how to lay down to eat it, she stands up. J
30/7/10 - Jess is enthusiastic and playful. She
eagerly does what is asked of her and thrives on
attention. She is having a ball playing with her
other Samoyed foster sisters and would be best suited
to a home with another Samoyed to play with. She
would also make a great obedience, agility or sporting
dog. This is a truly special girl, that deserves
a special home and that wants to let her shine and be
a wonderfully Sammy family member. ess (left) & Acacia11/8/10 - Jess is on trial with a family in Canberra, ACT. 22/8/10 - Jess has been permanently adopted by a great family in Canberra. She has another dog to play with and lots of kids too. Name:
Acacia
****ADOPTED****
Age:
12 months
(approx)
4/7/1020
-
Acacia
has been taken into care by NSW Samoyed Rescue
after compaints were made about her condition and
her pups condition. Acacia has come into care VERY
skinny at only 13kg. She has very prominent ribs,
hip bones and spine. There is little muscle left
on her body and she is truly wasted under the
remanents of a very patchy coat. She has recently
had a litter of pups, even though she is most
likely not even 12 months old herself.
Acacia is very timid and withdrawn and at some
point has obviously been physically abused as we
are having trouble trying to handle her as she is
so scared. She was in desperate need of a bath,
flea treatment and grooming, as like Jess she had
straw and filth matted into what little coat she
had left. Acacia was more importantly in
serious need of veterinary attention and most
probably would not have survived much longer in
the living conditions she was in. Acacia was
immediately taken to vets for assessment and then
given antibiotics, worming and vaccination.
She was then washed and blow dried and got to
spend her first night in doors sleeping on a
proper clean bed.![]() 9/7/10 - Acacia plays well with her foster sister Jess, but remains nervous and is hesitant to approach other dogs or people. Both girls are feeding off each other and getting up to mischief and are ignorant of any instructions. It is clear they have had no training and don't know any doggy manners. We decided to separate Acacia and Jess to see what would happen and determine if they could be adopted separately, and to give them better one on one attention. As it turns out both girls are coping much better without each other as they are no longer "feeding negatively off each other". Acacia is now looking towards the other permanent dogs for guidance and learning what to do from them. 22/7/10 - Acacia is coming out of her shell and playing well with the other permanent dogs. She is slowly learning how to sit and wait. Slowly. She is putting on weight and she is starting to develop a new undercoat. Acacia is slowly starting to come to us willingly now instead of running away each time we approached. Once you have her and she understands that you arent going to hurt her she readily climbs up into your lap begging for cuddles and pats. There is a gorgeous sammy desperate to come out. 14-8-10 - Acacia is now much happier and healthier girl. After almost 2 months in care she is now up to 18kg of weight. She still has some more to put on (we are aiming for 22kg) and is much more lively and confident. Hopefully she will now also start developing back some muscle tone. She has formed a close bond with Jackson the Samoyed Rescue Mascot and they are constantly playing with each other. She has fun each afternoon running around with all the dogs at the park and playing. She now is starting to look and act more like a Samoyed. A beautifully soft undercoat is almost fully grown in now and the start of a new outer coat is showing. She has now learnt all her new routines and is progressing along with her general doggy training. She is now eagerly coming when called and will launch herself into my arms. It brings tears to my eyes to see such a positive improvement in this girl. She is adapting well to her new life and all the cuddles and attention she gets now. 22-8-10
Acacia has been permanently adopted by her
foster mum. So everyone please welcome Acacia
Tomlinson to the NSW Samoyed Rescue permanent family
:)
"The Fonz"The Fonz is 10years young and seeking a new permanent home. He's still full of cuddles, life and a big cheeky grin. He has been a mainly outside dog, only occasionally coming inside. His current owner has now got a young family and feels that he is not getting the attention he deserves or craves, as he is just sitting in the backyard and only getting occasional walks. The Fonz however would like to be given the opportunity to come inside and be made part of a family. He wants to show off his slick moves and dashing good looks. He has been groomed regularly to keep the essential "Fonz" look at its best. He has grown up with children and is gentle with them. The Fonz will come fully vaccinated, wormed, microchipped, groomed and desexed. He will be available for a $350 adoption cost to cover his vet expenses. The Fonz is now in temporary foster care and needs to find a new forever home. Interstate adoptions welcome (transport arrangements and costs at new owners expense). 23-6-2010: Fonz is now settling into foster care. He's loving being inside and is progressing very quickly with his toilet training. He is play-bowing to instigate playtime and is having fun with all his new toys. He loves going for walks and is a dream in the car. We need to get some new photos of him as this one they provided doesn't do him justice. 27-6-10 - Fonz is currently enjoying a road trip "holiday" with his foster carer and wont be available for adoption until July. Thank you for your patience. 5-7-10 Fonz has been adopted by a member of family from his breeders. He has settled in well with one of his female distant cousins and is loving being an indoor dog. FUZZ I'm a 3yr old purebred male Samoyed desperately looking for someone to love me! ![]() Fuzz has been saved by the hair on his back, in the last few minutes before being PTS. 3/6/10 - Fuzz is displaying a calmer disposition and at this stage doesn't seem overly active. He is following his foster carer from room to room and then settles back at her feet. 5/6/10 - Fuzz has now settled more and has figured out he can play with Lucky the other resident male Samoyed. He is proving to have a lovely temperament. We can not understand why this dog was surrendered. He ticks all the boxes. Fuzzy would make a lovely addition to any family willing to love him. He has good conformation, nice teeth, great happy personality and of course the gorgeous looks. BeauName
: Beau
Age :
5yrs
Sex :
Male.
Description: Beau had been surrendered into
renbury pound by his owners. He has suffered
from neglect and is severely under weight at just
15.6kg. Ideally he should be about 24-26kg for
his height. However Beau was als
o having trouble
walking. Within a pound environment it was not
possible to determine cause of limping and dragging of rear feet.
There appeared to be nerve involvement. Was this a
prior injury? Had he been hit by a car? Was this a
form of Hip Dysplasia????? What was
clear was that he was either PTS or purchased so we
could determine why he was in pain.
Beau's temperament won us over. Though
obviously uncomfortable and trying to cope in such a
terrible environment. He never once showed
aggression to all our poking and prodding. He
just returned for more cuddles and tried to walk and
run whilst we tried to determine what was wrong.29/5/10 - We decided to give him a last chance and see if we could help the little guy. We rushed him upto the vets to get x-rays done. Unfortunately the prognosis was not good. It was discovered that Beau has Spondyolysis of the thoracic spine. It is compounded by the fact that he has no muscle mass to support himself as he is so underweight and wasted away. Unfortunately there is no surgical treatment for this condition. The vets have prescribed a course of steroid anti-inflammatory to try and relive the pressure from his spinal cord and help alleviate the pain. We will continue with this course of treatment and will slowly try to get him to gain some strength and weight. 30/5/10 - After only a days treatment, 3 lots of washes some food and a warm bed. Beau is already looking and feeling a lot better. His tail came up for the first time today and he seems to have a more positive step. Beau has now gone into long term foster care to see if we can wean him back to a happier and more comfortable life. 5/6/10 - Beau has been adopted by his foster carer. ![]() Biscuit 1 year old Purebred small female Samoyed. Height: 40cm, weight: 13kgs. Beautiful boisterous temperament, very high energy and can't get enough attention. She is a little mischievous and needs a little more ongoing training. She would need active owners to be able to keep up with her. Biscuit is great with children, cats and other dogs. Does require lots of exercise and grooming. Walks well on a harness and very much loves her walks, she gets so excited at that time. She is not a fussy eater and is a very happy, active 12 month old puppy. Name
: Kiarah
Age :
3yrs
Sex : Female.
20-3-10
Kiarah has come
into care due to her owner's financial
difficulties and growing family. She
came in with masses of fleas in
amongst matted fur and has unfortunately chewed a
lot of her fur off along her back trying to get at
the fleas. Her owners were not able to
afford to treat them and they have
obviously been on her from some time. She
was immediately brushed to remove mats in her fur
and flea washed and then washed in
Malaseb to help sooth her skin. She is a
much more comfortable and happy girl now.
She has also been flea treated with Frontline plus
now.Kiarah
has grown up with young children and has spent some
time indoors when she was younger.
Unfortunately of late she has been only left in the
backyard and has not been looked after sufficiently.
She will require a few weeks in foster care to allow
her skin to settle down. Once in better condition
she will be desexed, microchipped,
vaccinated and wormed prior to rehoming.
Through
all
the
brushing
and
washing
she
was
a
complete
angel.
Kiarah
has
a
gorgeous
sweet
and
gentle
nature.
She
doesn't
bark
and
loves
cuddles.
She
is
sooky
in
nature
and
is comfortable spending extended time alone.
She would however prefer to be with you and allowed
inside to be part of the family again. There
were also cats in the family at earlier stages in
her life. Kiarah will make a wonderful
addition to any family willing to love her. She
travels quietly in the car and loves going for
walks. The human kids were jumping
on the trampoline above her and she just lay quietly
underneath. Not phased at all. The
neighbours dogs are barking and they are of no
concern. Shes not interested in chasing birds.
She is happy to just lie peacefully with you.
23-3-10
Kiarah is still proving to be a sweet girl. She loves cuddles and is happy to just sit with you. However we have discovered that she LOVES to play ball. I've never seen a Samoyed that continuously plays with a ball so much. She drops the ball nicely at your feet and keeps coming back for more. She doesn't mind playing ball on her own either, chucking it around the yard herself. At this rate she looks to prove like she would be a good dog for fly ball or agility. She has made good friends with Jackson our rescue mascot and seems gentle and submissive towards other dogs both male and female. She is proving to be good inside the house. No accidents so far, and she's mastered the dog door with a little help from Jackson. She was a complete angel at the vet, not a whimper or a look of concern from her needles. Not even the massive microchip one! Kiarah will need a few weeks for her skin to settle down before she can desexed (to help prevent infection during/after surgery). 28-3-10 Kiarah has now been in care a week. She is proving to be a pleasure to have around. She appears fully house trained with no accidents all week. She sleeps quietly through the night on her bed. Kiarah has had her 2ND wash this morning. Her skin has improved better and quicker than we expected. We expect her to make a full recovery. The scabs are starting to fall off and there is nice healthy skin showing. Kiarah has dew claws on her back legs. However the nails appear to have never been cut. Regretfully they have completely curled over and grown back into her leg almost 1cm in. They are too deep into her pads to safely cut them out. Amazingly she doesn't appear troubled by them and there is only the slightest of limp to show something is wrong. She is quite happily letting me fiddle and cut her nails, even the ones that are curled over into flesh. I can see no reason why they couldn't have been cut previously, but it's to dangerous to do it now without surgery due to risk of bleeding and infection. Poor little girl, just as well she doesn't mind getting all the extra cuddles! 1-4-10 Kiarah has now been desexed and had her rear dew claws removed. Her dew claws continued to worsen, so had to be removed sooner than later. Her skin has almost completely healed now, and just needs the hair to start growing back to cover in the bare patches that she's chewed out. She is still being a lovely girl. She didn't go to the toilet whilst locked inside all day yesterday (recovering fom surgery the day prior). She is gentle and quiet and loves cuddles. 10-4-10 Kiarah is now on trial in Gosford, NSW where she has a male Alaskan Malamute to take care of her and help her play more.
Name : Sam (Purebred
with pedigree papers)
Age : Adult
Sam has grown up with young children, he is fully
house trained and can be left on his own for several
hours inside. He's had basic obedience training
and loves just hanging around with you. At one
stage his owner was even taking him to work with
her. Sam loves people and has been socialised with
other dogs. He has grown up an only child
and is therefore a little more independent. He is
well behaved and gorgeous samoyed. He has been
regularly groomed but is slightly overweight at the
moment due to the current owners lack of time for him
due to growing family commitments.Sex : Male Description: Sam has gone to his forever home in QLD (18-3-10). Name : Merlin Magic (Purebred with
pedigree papers)
Age : 10 months
Sex : Male Description: 11th January
2010
A PUPPY, A PUPPY, A PUPPY!! Merlin
has been saved from the pound (JUST, with minutes to
spare!) after a much confused and ill owner didn't
know what to do with him. Due to his previous
owner's obviously debilitating health she was not able
to care for a young energetic puppy in proper fashion.
Merlin would best ideally suited to someone who has another dog for him to play with and learn from. He will need consistent daily exercise so that he can burn off puppy energy and build proper muscle to support his growth and get rid of some puppy fat. Merlin has had basic puppy training (sit, come, heel) but would benefit from attending some adult classes for more socialisation and to refresh his manners. At the moment he's a typical Samoyed puppy and its all about play and cuddles and doesn't want to do the boring stuff. We believe he has been allowed inside and is toilet
trained. However he is currently fostering in a
kennel environment.Merlin is currently blowing his puppy coat and pushing through his adult coat. So it is very thick and in some places patchy. He will be professionally groomed prior to release but will require a home willing to spend at least 30minutes each week brushing him. Merlin will be available for adoption once all his vet work is done for $500. He will be microchippe d,
vaccinated, desexed,
wormed and groomed prior to being released for
sale. He comes with full pedigree papers from a
well know breeder and is from imported semen from USA
champion lines. A lot of effort and money was
put into producing this gorgeous puppy. He comes
from highly respected lines and never should have been
put into the pound and left there. He was literally
minutes from death while we argued the politics and
silly government legislations to purchase him
out. Thank goodness he is safe now.![]() Name : Jester
Jester
has
been handed into vets after his owner passed
away. Unfortunately he was also close to
death. Jester has suffered from severe neglect
and is badly underweight at 15.8kg. His
previous owner either did not know how to look after
him or was not able to for some reason. He was
brought into vets severely matted with numerous
infected wounds and was meant to be PTS.
However the vets and nurses fell for his big sad
eyes and gorgeous temperament. They have spent
the last 2 weeks over the Xmas / New Year
period trying to get him back over the right
side of the bridge. He has been given drips
initially, antibiotics, cortisone injections, flea
treatments and salves. The vets graciously
held him and cared for him whilst the silly season
went by and he is now out of the woods and back on
the mend. Age : 8 Years Sex : Male (desexed) Description: 23December: 5th January:
His
wounds
from scratching himself are all mostly healed and
the stitches are out.Today he has been brushed and groomed to the best of our ability given his poor condition and we have managed to save approximately 70% of his summer coat fur. He does have enough coverage over his back and sides to protect him from the sun. His legs and tummy however are pretty bare due to his scratching and chewing. We believe with a proper diet and someone to brush him it will grow back to cover his legs again. There is also a bare patch around his eye. The hair here has already started growing back. His nose is healing also. Through all his treatments with needles, cleaning wounds and pulling dead matted hair out he's has not shown an ounce of aggression. We have had him with other dogs off lead in a dog run and he seems fine. I have walked him past cat cages at the vets and he hasn't shown any interest in them. This leads me to think he should be okay with cats. But at this stage we have NOT formally tested him with cats. The priority so far has been getting his wounds healed and getting him to start putting on weight. He has a lovely calm temperament. He is not barky and is happy to be with you. He can jump up on you if he doesn't get a pat but does get down if you push him away. At this stage he's just so happy to get attention and is locked in a small run so can get excited. As soon as he gets a pat he calms down. Jester needs time for him to put weight back on and fully heal. He needs to get out of the dog run. He has been an only dog and is reasonably independent. He sleeps through the night outside without barking, but would ideally go to someone where he can sleep inside more comfortably and get off the concrete floor to heal quicker. 9th
January 2010
Jester has now had the last of
his essential vet work done. He is
vaccinated, desexed and microchipped and is now
18kg. He will now be going to a long term foster
home on an extended trial with view of permanent
adoption. He still has got a long way to go
to fully recover but we felt it best that he gets
some one on one attention in a home environment so
that he can heal and recover as quickly as
possible. ![]() Name : Mishka
Mishka was surrendered
into the organisation due to owners relocating into a
non-pet friendly home. She came to us very cuddly
and huggable but is currently on a strict diet and
increasing exercise regime to ensure she loses her
excess weight. Mishka has grown up with children and
another smaller dog. She has a wonderful gentle
nature and is a pleasure to have around. Age : 8 Years Sex : Female (desexed) Description: Listed 14-11-09
Age: 6 years
Sex: Male Luka's owner passed away a few days ago. He has grown up with another younger dog (Rueben a 3 year old male Irish Setter - also being surrendered in) and 3 cats. He is an indoor dog. Luka is also shaved so would require a home that is willing to allow him inside during the day so his skin doesn't burn until he grows back his insulation against the sun. Luka is definately on the rolley polley size and needs to loose some weight. He has been house bound for several months due to owners ill health and has been getting a few too many treats to compensate! Listed 10/11/09
Age: 5 years
Sex: Male Description: Binki has been saved from deathrow. His owners went overseas and left him behind with another family. However after a few months they have surrendered him into the pound as they felt they couldn't look after him. Someone has obviously done the basic ground work with him. He is house trained (he's staying locked inside for over 8 hours without going to the toilet both during the day and at night) and considerate. Though he gets excited when you get home he doesn't jump on you and he understands to keep out from your feet. He is slightly independent prefering mostly to observe the rest of the samoyeds here and sit quietly out of the way. He's obvioulsy been an only child and is a bit overwhelmed by the 5 dogs that are in his foster care house. He is not showing any signs of aggression, but is cautious, its taken him a few days to start instigating play himself. Obviously no one has done anything with him in the last 6 months, since his previous owners had gone over seas. His fur is very very thick and he has loose matting from head to toe. He is also currently blowing coat so we have hair going every where. On the positive side he LOVES to be brushed. He's enduring hour long sessions and then remains on the grooming bench waiting for more, even though I'm exhausted. There is so much hair, but once we get it all out he will be even more beautiful. When his coat is back to a managable level he will require a home prepared to brush him once a week for about 1/2 hour. He wont object if you want to brush him more! ![]() Update 13/11/09
Binki
is settling well into routine life. He seems
a lot happier and is eager for pats. He has
also discovered the pond and now we cant keep him
out of it. He loves water, splashing all
that come near and if no one is paying him
attention he starts to roll. He also seems
to like playing ball and keeps picking the balls
out of the toy stash and bringing them to
us. This weekends plans entails more
brushing! We have realised he has quite a
funny personality and look. We think we
should rename him "Ed" out of The Lion king.
He just always seems to have this goofy grin on
his face and just follows along with what the
others are doing. We should also note that
Binki/Ed has a slightly crooked eye. It
however doesn't impeded his sight but just makes
the funny expressions he gives "who me???" even
more funny and cute. He's a pleasure to have
around and easy to manage. I can see a
definate funny & cheeky side developing now
that he's settling in. We have had to take
the water out of the pond due to his stitches,
this doesn't seem to worry him, he still thinks
it's the best place to lie down. His other
favourite spot is up on the grooming table.Binki will be made available for his new home once all vet checks, stitches out and assessments are done (20-11-09). He will be professionally groomed, microchipped, desexed, vaccinated, wormed, heartworm checked and flea treated whilst in foster care. Name
: Snowy
Age : 4 Years Sex : Male (desexed) Description:
Snowy was surrendered into care
due to owners ill health. He has
grown up with small children and loves to
play. He has been allowed indoors, but did
sleep outside in his previous home. He is
proving to be house trained, and is now
sleeping inside in foster care. Snowy has
recently been clipped by the family in an
attempt to manage his coat. Please note we
do NOT encourage any Samoyed to be
clipped. Snowy is a happy social boy that
loves people and other dogs. He is cuddly
and loving in nature. He is not barky and
is happy to be with you or another dog. He
has been in a family environment and has
also grown up with an older Rough
Collie. Snowy has passed his
temperament tests and has now gone to his
new forever home in Melbourne.![]() Snowy
was unfortunately clipped by previous
owners before coming into care. His
coat will take approximately 6 months to
fully grow back.

care due to excessive barking and complaints from

lonely and bored. Samoyeds are very much a
family orientated breed and if left out of the pack
they fret and become depressed. It was clear
that Bella required a home with another dog to play
with and someone that would allow her to come inside
and be part of the family.
