History:

The Portarlington Sailing Club was formed on the 14th September 1969 at a public meeting held at the Portarlington Football Club rooms and was first known as the Portarlington Aquatic and Sailing Club. The word "Aquatic" was dropped in 1972 leaving us with "Portarlington Sailing Club"  The club had two previous sites along the Portarlington foreshore before moving to the present location in 1972. The first site was east of the Portarlington township at Seal Rocks. The second location was at the Portarlington Pier, and the final resting place is at Pt Richards Portarlington.

Club Members were responsible for the building of the club rooms which started with the double garage in 1975, then the rest of the two story building grew from there. Members spent many weekends and organised working bees in the building of the club rooms. The club house was completed in 1981.

Being quite isolated in the early years, the Foreshore / Caravan Park has now grown to be one of the largest Foreshore / Caravan Parks in Victoria, and which now surrounds the back of the Club. Members are proud of the reputation the club has built over the years in hosting The Portarlington Channels Race for Trailable Yachts, State and National Titles for monohulls, multihulls and trailable yachts.

The Club provides races for local sailors and social activities for their families. Organised racing is held at the club every Sunday from September to April.
