Getting Into Idol

Now, I'm not a reality TV show fan. I'm not even a TV fan, really. I'm not very into music. I'm certainly not the obsessive-fangirl type. Yet I became quite addicted to Australian Idol. Partly it was the interest of seeing who mad it and what happened next, partly the interest of watching great performances like Cosima and Paulini's - and partly because of Guy Sebastian!

I started watching the show 'cos I was told - hey, there's this Christian guy from Planet Shakers who's got into the top twelve and the judges reckon he's got 'one of the cleanest male voices they've ever heard'. My friend really likes Planet Shakers. My sister mentioned he went to our old church. Anyway, I got watching the show at last on the first night of the finals, mostly 'cos I was looking out for this Guy guy. Then I wanted to see who was going to get out. Then I wanted to hear Guy sing again. Then I was hooked. ^^.

I always tend to have a favourite character when I watch a show or movie, and get most of my enjoyment out of following what happens to that character. Ditto with Australian Idol, even though this is with real life people. I found myself following Guy's progress through the competition and watching for when he was on screen, waiting especially for his performances, and feeling very pleased that he was the one who made it the longest without being in the bottom two or three. When I first saw the show, I liked Guy but I didn't somehow think he would make it to the end, let alone to win - maybe near the end, but I didn't quite trust the Australian voting public to vote for pure talent.

Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised and I'm glad that my favourite got through all the way and is now hugely famous throughout Australia with everyone speaking well of him. I think I'd have found the show pretty boring if Guy wasn't in it, actually. ^^.

Why Guy's the guy

One of the things I like about Guy is that almost every week he did a kind of 'all out' performance. Like, every week he performed as if it were his last week (I suppose it always could be, on this show) and given very dynamic, passionate, interesting performances that have usually been the highlight of the show. His fun songs were always fun, with his funky movements, funny facial expressions and evident enjoyment, but he also really connected with his serious/sweet songs, pouring his heart into them like no other. Now that I've seen World Idol and various other performances, and thought about it more, I think he's really unique in this: his performances aren't just visually/vocally proficient, but performances with heart.

His music always puts me in a good mood. ^_^.

My favourite songs of his were 'Crazy in love', 'The way you look tonight', 'When I get you alone', 'Climb every mountain', and 'You're the voice' (see left ^_^.)... I like best his 'fun' songs and his slow, tender songs. So melty. ^_^.

He's also a cool guy, and a nice guy, and it's great to see someone have fun when they perform. For more reasons why he was a deserving winner and a great addition to the Australian music scene, see the Why Guy? page. ^_^.

I made this site just because I always like to write and to express my opinions, and I think Guy is most cool. There aren't a lot of Guy sites around yet [this is now considerably less true ^_^.] so I thought it'd be cool to be one of the first ones - I'm sure he'll be a total star [is he ever! o.O.] before very long but in the meantime, I wanna give my bit of support to him. I don't have the means to vote a thousand times and I'm not the "camp out overnight to see him and wave signs" type, so this is my way of supporting my favourite singer and encouraging other people to like him too. ^_^.

I also wanted to give fellow Guy fans a bit of info, pictures, stuff to read on him, whatever. I myself like reading sites with a personal element, that aren't just info lifted from official sources, so I thought I'd create one meself. ^_^.

*It's a pretty uninspired name for the site but hey, it's immediately recognisable and I don't think anyone else has used it as a site name yet (though no doubt within a fortnight there'll be about a dozen of us who were each hit with the same inspiration ^_^.). [Note: this has indeed happened. ^_^.]
