~Lauren~
"Do one thing every day that scares you."
-Baz Luhrman

Lauren This is Lauren Buckley, who came ninth in the Australian Idol competition. ^_^. At 17 she was the youngest finalist. I wanted to send her fanmail but I didn't know where to send it, so I thought I'd just make this page instead. ^^.

I really liked Lauren, actually; I think she first appealed to me because she was nervous and shy, and I can relate to that. And when she cried on stage, poor girl, I could relate to that too. Even though she said later she was relieved to be out of the competition (would have been pretty stressful and nervewracking for even the experienced performers, and Lauren had no performing experience at all!), you have to agree, those Monday night shows were just designed to build up the tension and get everyone feeling upset. ^^.

The songs Lauren did were Imagine (Top 40), Moondance (70s night), Lady Marmalade (No. 1s). She also sang a song I don't know for the finals night; she was the only one to sing a song she hadn't done during the semis/finals, and it was nice to hear another song from her. I like Lauren's style; she's got an interesting, kind of deep, husky, strong voice and it's so pretty. You can see her doing jazz songs and stuff. She's also really tall and really pretty. I wish I'd taped the episode where she did Lady Marmalade; she looked so cool in that song.

I think if Lauren had stayed in the competition longer we would have seen her improve a lot and come out of her shell - from a schoolgirl with no entertaining experience into a seasoned performer. I think what I would have really liked to see from Lauren would be heartfelt songs, like, sweet songs that she could sing as her own, that she could mean.

I think the main reason she got out when she did was because she was a bit too nervous. Now, I know her vocal prowess isn't quite like Cosima or Paulini, but it's good in its own right, and as I said, I like its uniqueness. But you could see she was nervous; it woulda been cool if she'd smiled a bit more, looked the camera 'in the eye' a bit more. Everyone was really encouraging and kind to Lauren on the show, which was nice to see. I think she didn't quite expect to get so far and was kind of swept into it all. She seems like a really sweet girl. ^_^.

Lauren has her own 'single' on the Australian Idol Final 12 album, 'Always and forever'. I think it's the best song on the album, myself, and I think this is the kinda song more suited to her. I hope we get to hear more from Lauren in the future. I could imagine that after performing at the Opera House, she'll find it easier to perform in other places and get more confidence. Maybe we'll hear more from her when she's a bit older. ^_^.

Here are a few shots of the lady herself. Unfortunately all I have with her on it is the Grand Final.
