Friends"The only normal people are the ones you don't know very well." -Joe Acias
At any rate, the feeling was mutual - Mimi didn't like most of them very much either, or at least found them difficult to understand, I think they weren't like her usual friends at all! Most of them didn't listen to her much or just got annoyed when she complained, and she wasn't used to people not fussing over her. But, time changed things... how does Mimi get along with each of the digidestined? Tai Mimi does see Tai as the leader, and although I think she is sometimes a little annoyed by him (he must make decisions she doesn't agree with), she doesn't really say so. Tai was one of the two who had to deal with her as Princess Mimi (or "Princess Meanie" as he called her ^_^.), and he was quite impatient with her, and her huffy with him. ^_^.
![]() One scene I find quite touching is where Mimi was lying unconscious with a bunch of other children who had been knocked out by DemiDevimon. Her crest wakes her up, and she wakes up a little dazed and scared - finding herself without her friends, parents or Palmon, and maybe wondering where she is or what happened to her. She goes outside, and sees Tai. Differences forgotten, Mimi is very happy to see Tai and runs to him in relief. Mimi never showed much interest in Tai's existence before - it was a nice illustration of how time in the digital world had changed their relationships with each other. Tai was a fellow digidestined, someone familiar, and someone who was her friend. So she ran to him. Generally, the two can tolerate each other, sometimes are mildly irritated with each other (the only thing they have in common is that they usually tend to respond according to emotion), and generally just put up with each other's company. It's hard to make judgements, but they're not really close or anything. Some fans pair Mimi up with Tai, they call it "Michi". Mimi and Tai are two digidestined who interact with one another very little. Actually, Mimi is paired up with most of the cast by Digimon fandom, as she is one of the few girls. ^_^; Sora In the first episode, Sora wondered where "the girl with the funny pink hat" was. Tai said "now now, her name is Mimi," sounding quite weary. This makes me think that Sora doesn't like Mimi very much at first and has expressed this view to Tai before. ^_^; At any rate, Sora and Mimi are very different people. Once, when the two are walking the city together to look for the eighth child, Mimi continually requests that they stop to rest, while Sora isn't tired at all. I think this is when Mimi first acknowledges that maybe being athletic/strong is a desirable and useful thing, and something she lacks...
![]() But Sora is a very kind person, and patient with Mimi, sometimes almost gentle like a mother. Because they are the only female digidestined (pre-Kari), they sometimes have to stick together. They were the only two who weren't captured by Kokatorimon (because they were showering ^_^;), they searched the city together, and Sora was the one to get through to Mimi when she was playing the mean princess. Sora is also usually the one to help/comfort Mimi. Matt Mimi and Matt only ever exchange a few sentences throughout the series. I think every time Matt speaks to Mimi, it is to say something irritated/dismissive. "There she goes again, does she even hear the same things we do?!", "Why didn't you tell us you had a compass back when we needed one?!", "You have no imagination!", "I think we should ALL STOP COMPLAINING...". Despite this, Mimi seems to like Matt okay. She sounded like she wanted to find him when she and Joe heard a harmonica playing. They get along because of the digital world, I suppose. There is quite a following of "Mimato" which is the act of pairing Mimi and Matt up. I'm told this is because they are both supposedly "popular" people with the "beautiful person" image. But the two are really 'cool' in different ways - Mimi is a sort of social butterfly, the sort to be gossipy and ditzy, while Matt is more cool and aloof, gaining respect through his cool dignity. I think they would get on each other's nerves, although by the end of the series they have both improved in those respects. Joe Joe is arguably Mimi's best friend. They don't seem to like each other much at first (Joe is annoyed with Mimi for being irresponsible and weasling out of her job, Mimi is annoyed at Joe for being stuffy and not succumbing to her charms) but they really learn to get along. Mimi is often playfully teasing Joe, and they end up as fighting partners. (Er, partners who fight with each other's help, not partners who fight each other. ^_^;;)
![]() It is their Digimon that turn Ultimate in the real world, they attack Apocalymon together, are the only two not captured by Scorpiomon, and when Mimi is upset and not wanting to go off with the others (because of all the violence and killing that seems to follow them), Joe instantly volunteers to stay with her to keep her safe. Joe is pretty nice to Mimi, he manages to make her feel less bad about staying behind, and also tries to protect her and make sure she's alright. I think Mimi thought Joe was a bit of a dork at first but after a while in the digital world, that sort of fades into insignificance and she appreciates him more - when he finally did decide to leave her, she didn't want him to, but she accepted his reasons and let him. I've written a little more about their relationship on my Joe site, the page in question is here. I don't really support any relationshippy fandoms in Digimon but I think Mimoe is one of the better ones... it has the 'looking good together' factor, the 'personality compatibility' factor, the 'plausibility' factor and a few other things, like age and gender. ^_^; It does, at least, have a foundation of friendship, and I think Joe does have a bit of a crush on Mimi. I think he even sent Mimi a Valentine (in the dub). So... Izzy Hahahh, tension! These two are opposites if anyone ever was. Izzy is serious where Mimi is emotional, Izzy calm where Mimi is hysterical, Izzy smart where Mimi is ditzy... you get the idea. These two are the same age, but you wouldn't know it - Izzy acts much older than his years, and this gets on Mimi's nerves. Actually, both of them get on each other's nerves quite a lot. ^_^;; Izzy is impatient with Mimi's ignorance (okay, okay - blatant stupidity ^_^;;) and inability to prioritise. Mimi is impatient with the way Izzy is always on the computer, ignoring everyone else, and how he is patronising towards her. Who can forget the touching expression of friendship between the two in that episode where they found themselves stranded together? Mimi kept trying to get Izzy's attention but he, wrapped up in the thrill of trying to crack a code, ignored her completely, so that she started shouting and stormed off in tears. Palmon said he should apologise and Izzy was annoyed, thinking he had no REASON to apologise. But in the end, Izzy helped Mimi escape from a labyrinth and came to rescue her. So, even though they don't always get along, they can count on each other. That's important. But they, not understanding each other very well, do tend to snipe sometimes. "It's a simple task, Mimi, even you'll catch on." "Uh oh, he's in computer dork mode again, this could take a while!" I'm not quite sure why Mishirou is so popular. I won't diss it, but I can't see these two together at all. Nonetheless, it would make an -interesting- pairing if they were written well. Maybe that's the appeal. You know there are people who believe in "the thin line between love and hate", and thus use this as an excuse to pair up people who argue a lot. ^_^. TK TK is probably Mimi's other good friend, besides Joe (and maybe Sora). Before Kari, the two are often shown together (usually when the group is talking about people becoming tired/cold/discouraged/etc - they are thought of as the weak two of the group, who the others sort of have to look after/put up with).
![]() They're the two youngest so they get along. Izzy may be younger than Mimi, I don't know, but he doesn't act like a little kid. Mimi, although she sometimes scorns immature behaviour, can be a playful little kid when she wants. She and TK were playing in the snow and having fun while everyone else was having a serious discussion. ^_^. TK might have a little crush on Mimi. She does suck up to him when she finds out he has some food in his backpack. ^_^. He's friendly to her and thinks she's "the best", although Matt doesn't quite agree. ^_^; The two get along nicely, and TK is the only person who seems unaffected by her complaining. ^_^. Kari Because Mimi and Joe split away from the group Kari is in, we don't see these two interacting much. If at all. I think they would get along okay but you don't see anything. I know Kari and Mimi e-mail each other in the second season but I'm trying not to write about the second season here so I shouldn't say anything. ^_^;; |
