Logging on to Corvine Projects

If you are not the system administrator (usually the guy who downloaded the software) then you will be given a link to use. If you are the administrator then it will be:
http://[host computer]/projects/projects_logon.html
and you will be greeted with the following screen

Should you want to get a feel for Corvine Projects here is link to logon as a guest. The reporting examples used in these instructions are based on this.

Just a quick word about browsers. Opera 9.6.2 works with Corvine Projects. It also has an email client and works well on old computers (believe me, I've got one). If you have got a computer which struggles with running other browsers then opera is worth considering. As a bonus it also prints true to its print preview which is a help in an energy constrained world.

The first thing that you will notice is that instead of just two fields to enter you have 3, being

  1. Database: This is the database that you are going to connect to.
  2. Username. Ask the administrator for one you like.
  3. Password. The administrator shall assign you one of these as well. Also open to suggestions.

The emphasis here is to develop ideas. In real life there will be spam entries and other entries that need editing. Due to this the administrator has full control. Alterations to this are available upon request.

I shall not be showing the browser on any more screenshots in order to conserve bandwidth. Having filled in all the details click on the logon button. This will give you the following screen:

If you're on a slow connection then it may be a while for the buttons to show up, as these show up last. What is happening is that some background info is loading so that things work faster. We are talking about 15 seconds on a 56K modem - although this may vary with many projects and employees.

GUEST ACCOUNT LOGON

With some installations you can log on as a guest account which is a read only account which gains you access to user, project and employee lists.

If you are the administrator what you have to do is set up a MySQL user (as distinct) from a Corvine Projects user) which cannot change any tables in the database.

For a quick result we shall deal with reports next.
