This story is good clean fluff and is one of those rare PG-rated 'Plot,  what Plot?' stories. It starts with the premise that there has been a rock fall outside the SGC and, since all the computers are down, what
else does a bunch of bored folks have to do but move the rocks?  A friendly competition starts between the Marines and the men of SG-1.

The rest of the story consists simply of descriptions of the guys as they lose their shirts as they work, much to the amusement of the gathering crowd of observers, and ends with a scene that I would almost pay to see. The story is funny, light and certainly good for the imagination. The rivalry between the Marines and SG-1 is something that harkens back to the first season of the show, which makes it more believable.

It is told from a series of different points of view but Jack's point of view in particular, has just the right touch of colloquialisms to make it believable. There is a little bit of Daniel worship but it all  fits in well with the over all tone of the story, which is lighthearted as the women of the base enjoy the view.

The Challenge is a short, fun and enjoyable story. If you're in the mood for a 'feel good fic', then this is definitely worth your time.
