When I opened "Kawoosh!" and saw that Sally Reeve and Marcy had co-written another fic, their story automatically became the first one I wanted to read.

The basic plot of "Conspiracy" is one we have yet to really have on the show, but it is plausible enough that I could see it happening. Sam has a cold and doesnºt go on a mission with the rest of her team. While
staying on the base, she overhears a phone call that leads her to believe that her team is in danger. With Janet not available, that leaves Hammond as the only one she can trust. So Sam sets off on her  own to rescue her team. The rest of the adventure alternates between SG-1's captivity on an alien world, and Sam's attempts to track them down. In a refreshing change, English is not the first language of the natives, which hampers her efforts.

What I love about this story is that all the characters are very much to the way they appear on the show. While "Conspiracy" is slightly Sam-oriented, the authors still have not forgotten that there are four other characters to consider, and each characterization is very close to what I see in canon. The one possible exception is the language. The canon characters rarely curse, so it is a little odd to hear them do so  in this story. However, given the situation they find themselves in, cursing is not a very surprising response, so it doesnºt really detract from the story for me.

My one major quibble with the story is that it starts with a conspiracy, but that conspiracy  is never reconciled. This could, of course, be the foundation for a sequel but there is no indication that one is to follow. In the end, we, like the characters, are left wondering whom the bad guys really are, why they did what they did, and when they will show up again. The reader is left wondering whether there was any real purpose to their presence in the story or whether they were  just a convenient plot device.

If you're in the mood for a good gen adventure - which in my opinion is something that is all too hard to find these days - then "Conspiracy" is one that I would recommend, either when it becomes available on the
net, or in its existing zine format in "Kawoosh!"
