Field and Training Workshops |
Geosurveys Australia can organise and run customised field and office-based training workshops in a number of areas.
Some examples of what we can offer are listed below but feel free to contact us for other options or areas of specific interest.
Field Workshops
Southern Gawler Craton
Structure, stratigraphy, alteration and mineralisation of the Archaean Sleaford Complex, Palaeoproterozoic Hutchison Group (host to Menninnie Dam lead-zinc mineralization and Middleback Range iron ore deposits), Lincoln Complex and related granitoids, major shear zones including the Yarlbrinda Shear Zone (host to Nuckulla Hill and Tunkillia gold prospects), Gawler Range Volcanics and Hiltaba Suite granites - enjoy a personalised field trip to this highly prospective region and enhance your prospects of successful exploration.
Eastern Musgrave BlockGeosurveys Australia is one of only very few companies to have worked recently in the South Australian sector of this highly prospective region. Depending on requirements and access arrangements, we can structure a field trip for you to the eastern sector of this under-explored early to middle Proterozoic crustal block.
Training Workshops
Introduction to GIS and Image Processing (including use of GPS)
The aims of this workshop are to:
· introduce the concepts and principle components of GIS
· look at the advantages and disadvantages of GIS versus paper maps
· look at the difference between vector and raster data
· establish the foundations for GIS in your projects or organisation and develop procedures for its use in map production
· introduce ArcView GIS software and train users in how to create projects, how to input, check and edit data, and how to generate maps
· introduce basic image processing techniques and how to rectify (georeference) and interpret raster data sets including Landsat data, aerial photos and aeromagnetics, and
· train field personnel in the use of GPS equipment.
The workshop will combine lecture presentations on all topics with practical hands-on exercises.
Basic Principles of Structural Geology and Geological Mapping (including Construction of Balanced Cross Sections)
The aims of this workshop are to:
· introduce the concepts and basic principles of structural geology as applied to geological mapping
· introduce the importance of a 4-D approach (3D + time)
· introduce the concept of balanced cross sections and how to construct them
· examine the geometry and analysis of faults and folds as applied to constructing balanced cross sections
· examine kinematic indicators of faults and folds and their field identification
· examine basic field mapping techniques with particular attention to the above topics
· examine basic methods of structural interpretation of drill core
· examine structural controls on mineralization.
This would be a 2-3 day workshop but would obviously benefit cosiderably by combining it with practical experience in the field.
