Following successful mating flights, the queen is ready to take up her tasks.

The queen is captured and placed in a mailing cage with several attendants to care for her in transit.

On arrival at her destination, the old queen is culled, and the mailing cage placed inside the hive so the queen's pheromones can circulate and be accepted by the hive. Meanwhile the bees open the exit passage which has been blocked with queen candy as a food source for the journey, enabling the queen to be released and take up her duties.
