QUEEN MATING HIVE

Queen cells are raised in a strong queenless hive. Before hatching, they must be placed in individual hives, otherwise the first queen hatched will kill her rivals.

The virgin queen will hatch and after patrolling her territory for several days, will orient from the individual entrance and undertake mating flights. There may be several of these over the next few days during which she may mate with up to 20 drones. She will then commence egg laying.
