A very slow growing grass tree species, the common name for which became Aussie slang for "hard work". Yacca has been harvested as a source of aromatic compounds and lacquers and exists in sufficient numbers across Kangaroo island to enable a small but sustainable annual yield.

The resins are harvested by the Ligurian bee as a valued ingredient in propolis.

Yacca is notable for raising its single flower stalk and bursting into blossom in the devastation following bush fires.
