Worker bees maintain a constant temperature in the brood frames whilst the bee larvae develops. They can raise or lower the ambient temperature by using their wings and evaporating moisture in the hive.

After the young bee emerges from its cell, its first duties are cleaning the cell so that it is ready for the queen to lay again, and feeding unsealed larvae.

The bee normally undertakes its first flights from the hive after approximately 10 - 14 days although young bees will have "play flights" during warm hours of the day, learning to orient to the hive entrance.
