HOG BAY APIARY

UNSEALED BROOD

Click picture to return

All stages of fresh brood can be observed here from fresh laid eggs (upright), to those about to hatch after 3 days(elongated), to developing larva.

Fresh laid eggs can be seen in the top of the picture, with just hatched larvae forming a letter "C" and increasing in size until the larvae fills the cell and spins a cocoon to pupate.

Surrounding cells have been packed with pollen as a protein source for the larvae.
