HOG BAY APIARY

A DAY IN THE OPEN

Warm weather provides a good opportunity to drop in at an apiary site to see how the bees are flying and whether pollen is being collected.

Apiary sites are selected so that hives have early morning sunlight and are sheltered from cold winds.

Hives are placed to slope downwards at the entrance so rain does not accumulate, they are faced in slightly different directions to assist the bees in orienting on their own hive.
