Confidentiality

Confidentiality is assured because psychologists follow a strict ethical code of professional conduct that is set and monitored by the Australian Psychological Society. Psychologists are also subject to the strict legal requirements of confidentiality at set by the Psychologist Registration Board.

Appointment Times

After hours and Saturday appointments are available.

Why a Psychologist?

Counsellor?

Counsellors have a range of qualifications but are not necessarily formally qualified or bound by a code of ethics. There are no legal requirements within Australia to call oneself a counsellor, there is no official registration and thus there is no legal protection for clients.

 Psychiatrist?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who then specialise in diagnosing and medically treating psychiatric conditions.

Psychologist?

Clinical Psychologists must be registered under government legislation to practice. Training involves at least 6 years of university training to Masters level and then two years supervised experience in assessing, treating and managing clinical conditions, human behaviour, feelings and thoughts. Psychologists are experts in the provision of a wide range of psychological therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Hypnotherapy. Psychologists are the only professionals trained in the assessment of intellectual ability, cognitive functioning, memory and personality.

Referrals

Referrals are not generally required unless you have a related medical and/or psychiatric condition where a referral from your GP can be helpful. Some Health Funds and referring or sponsoring agents such as Work-Cover and SGIC may also require a formal referral and in such cases consult your health fund or case-manager.

Health Fund Rebates

Costs are covered or partially covered by health insurance. SGIC Motor Vehicle Accident Insurance, Work-Cover and Private Health Insurance Extras, all apply. Please check the cover offered by your fund at the Health Insurance Website. A medical referral is not necessary to obtain a refund. There is no cover for costs from Medicare at this point in time. Some employers have an employee assistance scheme that may apply to you.

Fee Structure

There is no fee for the first 30 min of the first consultation. My hourly rate is then $90 AUS for each subsequent hour with a 10% same day payment discount for immediate settlement of accounts.

It is my aim to keep fees to a fair and affordable level. If the fee structure is not affordable to you, please feel free to discuss other possible options with me. I am sympathetic to the difficulties faced by individuals managing on government benefits,  single parents and single income families.

The fees outlined apply to most services for individuals, couples and families, but different fees may apply to other services i.e. medical or medico-legal assessments and/or reports, Critical Incident Stress Debriefings, public seminars and presentations.
