Welcome to my home page. I'm an educator
specialising in higher education policy and
technology
enhanced learning. I also have a background in
mathematics education.
I
am Education Services Manager at the International
Centre of Excellence in Water Resource Management
(ICE WaRM), where I coordinate postgraduate
programmes offered by five Australian
Universities and manage the Centre's education and
training programmes.
Before joining ICE WaRM, I was the Manager of
Research and Education in the Joanna
Briggs Institute. I was responsible for
instructional design and flexible delivery of the
Institute's training
programs as well as the overall management of
the education and research function of the
Institute.
I began my
teaching career in the South Australian Department of
Education as a secondary teacher. For 10
years I worked in curriculum development and staff
development in Mathematics Education, running
programs in schools across South Australia and
developing a number of teacher support resources. My
Masters
thesis focused on Mathematics Education and
equity.
I joined the
University of South Australia in 1995. My work at
the University of South Australia included student
support, academic development, curriculum
development, strategic advice and leading online
education across the University. This culminated in
my appointment as Associate Professor for Online
Education in 2006. I represented the
University at the Australasian
Council on Open, Distance and E-Learning (ACODE) ,
the peak Australasian organisation for universities
engaged or interested in open, distance, flexible
and e-learning. In 1998 I created the University’s
first online teaching and learning platform,
UniSAnet, and up until 2008 I managed online
education and directed the development of UniSAnet.
UniSA has replaced some components of UniSAnet with
learnonline
in an $11million Personal Learning Environment
project that was completed in 2011.
My PhD
thesis focused on online education, quality
assurance and higher education.
I was involved
in the following Office
for Learning and Teaching (formerly the
ALTC and the Carrick Institute) Teaching and
Learning projects:
-
Peer review of Online
Learning and Teaching pdf
($150 000)
-
Embedding peer review
of learning and teaching in e-learning and
blended learning environments pdf
($119 000)
-
Computer Aided Feedback
& Assessment System pdf
($113 000)
-
Facilitating
flexible, enquiry-based experiential learning
through an accessible, three-dimensional virtual
learning environment (3DVLE) ($241,000)
I am a regular
member of the Office
for Learning and Teaching's panels to assess
nominations for the Australian Awards of University
Teaching; contributing from 2008 to 2013.
For many years I
chaired the Education and Training track of the
annual AUSWEB conference,
and am a member of the Editorial Board of the International
Journal on E-Learning, the Australasian
Journal
of Educational Technology, the Journal of Information
Technology Education, Campus-Wide
Information
Systems and Studies in
Learning, Evaluation, Innovation and Development .
I also referee papers for the annual E-Learn
World Conference on E-Learning in Corporate,
Government, Healthcare and Higher Education, ASCILITE and
ODLAA conferences.
