Gateway
It is so amazing how some paintings come into being and the effect they have on the unsuspecting viewer. Way back in 1997 I was painting with a group of like-minded artists for an upcoming exhibition. One of the artists was a beautiful soul by the name of Greg Grace. Greg was a good friend of mine whose work I greatly admired. He was very focused and tuned-in, constantly sketching mandalas and other things he saw, on bits of paper.
One day I was at Greg’s place looking at some of his latest channelled drawings when I saw a coloured sketch of Gateway on an A4 size paper. I was blown away. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen, affecting me very deeply. I wanted to take the drawing home so that I could look at it every day.
Greg, understanding how I felt, said that I could have a copy. We took it to Leon Woods, a mutual friend, who was a director of a business specialising in pre-press, reproduction and design. Leon said that he would scan and print it for us, no problems, as he had the very best equipment for such jobs.
Leon had in mind to simply scan the drawing, create a jpg file and then print it, but it wouldn’t scan. After several attempts, Leon’s brand new $6,000 scanner blew up! Leon was most upset about this. A few weeks later Leon got himself a replacement scanner, which eventually did manage to scan Gateway, but the scanned image was extremely fuzzy and unusable. No matter what we tried we were not able to make a good reproduction of Gateway in any way, and I still wanted it very much.
So I came up with a great solution, I would paint it! I approached Greg with my brilliant idea and much to my surprise he agreed. Greg liked the way I painted and felt that my style of painting would very much suit and even enhance the already powerful energy emanating from the mandala. He gave me the original drawing from which I worked.
I absolutely loved painting the mandala. I decided to paint the entire mandala in dot form as I found this to be the most effective and energetically powerful way of transmitting the essence of Gateway. It took me eight months to complete it as I found the energy so powerful at times that I could not work on the painting for more that a couple of hours a day. Greg’s original drawing was only of the mandala, I added the cosmic background because that’s where the gateway existed.
When the painting was finally completed, it was like a celebration in my home. Many friends came to have a look and we all had incredible experiences. One friend was able to hear music emanating from it, another friend ‘went somewhere’ and was spaced out for a week. During the exhibition one young man looked at it and burst into tears. But the funniest experience was from a man who owned a publishing company.
John came to my place to talk to Leon, Greg and myself about creating a book on Mandalas. John was not a spiritual man by any stretch of the imagination but he was a businessman and saw a market for this kind of art. Greg and I tried to explain to him how mandalas worked energetically but John was not interested in understanding this, as he personally did not believe in such things. He only wanted to make money from it. As John was sharing this with us I noticed a very curious thing happening to him. As John was looking at the painting and talking he had one hand placed over his heart. As this is not a normal standing pose for most people I asked John why he was holding his hand over his heart. He said that he had no idea, but didn’t take his hand away. Next, I noticed that John was becoming quite short of breath and looking pale and shaky. Leon and I helped him to a seat and gave him a glass of water. John drank the water and immediately decided to leave. Lucky he wasn’t affected! Eventually John did get back to us and published a mandala book using Greg’s designs. Gateway was not included.
My experience of Gateway is very similar to Greg’s. When I look at the mandala in a meditative way I go through it to other dimensions. I intuitively sense that the Gateway exists within the middle star of the belt of Orion, and is the primary star-gate to other dimensional levels and universes.
