Enlightenment and the Brain
A Scientific Commentary of the Teachings of Sri Bhagavan by Christian Opitz.
Deeksha and the Brain
Enlightenment is the ability to see reality as it is, without the layers of interference and interpretation imposed by the mind. It is a simple neurobiological event, and can happen in an instant. Paradoxically, in the moment of your enlightenment, you also discover that you have always already been enlightened! It is our natural state!

This is Your Brain Praying
When Andrew Newberg’s book on the brain science behind religious and mystical experience turned up on the cover of Newsweek, it sparked a lively debate about God, evolution, and the meaning of life. This “neurotheologist’s” work is moving fast, so we caught up on his personal quest to understand the mysterious workings of mind and spirit, his latest research, and its profound implications for our daily lives.
Deeper into Enlightenment
There is an assumption that once you are enlightened you will never experience sadness, grief, anger, jealousy or pain that somehow you have overcome all negative thoughts and emotions. This is far from the truth. The nature of the mind is unchanged. The contents of the mind may also remain unchanged. But without the self to dictate terms or to differentiate so obsessively between right and wrong, you experience that the 'charge' begins to disappear. It is a continually deepening process.
Oneness Temple and Mass Enlightenment
The next stage of Bhagavan’s program for mass enlightenment is the completion of the ‘Shakti Stahl’, or ‘ Oneness Temple ’ being built at the Golden City. This temple has been designed using a form of ancient Vedic sacred geometry known as ‘vaasthu’, and will serve as a physical anchor for the next stage of Bhagavan’s work. Sacred geometrical proportions utilized in the Mayan and Egyptian pyramids have also been incorporated into the design.
How the Deeksha Phenomenon Came to Australia
You may wonder how the deeksha phenomenon started in Australia. It all started like this. One fine day on a Saturday in January 2001 a very beautiful Indian woman by the name of Rani (see profile at bottom) was invited to come to Australia to conduct a one-day workshop. It was during this workshop that we learned for the very first time about Bhagavan, Amma and their mission to enlighten humanity. Eighty-four people attended this one-day event.
