Split Second
by Samuel Allen

IT'S IN A SPLIT SECOND.

Music plays, the action begins;
boots, footsteps on a damp pavement, car's engine slowly fades away as does the light, for the taxi's headlights are dragged with it in it's departure. His somewhat drunk eyes attempt to focus, compensating with the new darkness.
A knock on a door and it's opened, a female, a female in underwear stands across the open doorway. Her eyes tired, squinted, but her smile full of life. The man smiles for her smile always has had the power to cause it so.
Their eyes lock as the door falls closed behind them. Their arms wrap around the body of the other. In his hands he takes hers where, on a finger on her left hand sits a ring, not two just the one, none upon the hands of the man.
Down a hallway, she follows.
A bedroom- familiar, a bed- familiar more so, a body covered, hidden and... snoring, it's in a split second- not so familiar.
He turns to her, their eyes lock, she smiling, the man smiles for her smile always has had the power to cause it so.

Backing down the hallway their eyes never part. The door closes before him upon her beautiful face.
Boots, footsteps on a dry pavement, the dark slowly disappears, as does his smile, for the rising sun paints light over the night. His new-born eyes stay focused and stare ahead, and continue to do so.
