Blackheaded Python
(Aspidites
melanocephalus)
Blackheaded
Pythons are amongst the most spectacular
and sought after of the pythons. They are relatively undemanding as captives
and are one of my favourites. Breeding this species can pose a few problems
but an increasing number of people are successfully reproducing these animals.
Problems are sometimes encountered with pair compatibility and the fertility
of eggs. Hatchlings may take some time to commence feeding as they hatch out
with large yolk reserves. Once started, these pythons are voracious feeders
and can rapidly grow by about 10cm a month whilst young.
