Queensland Ingres
User Group Inc.
1998 Annual Report
(for year ended 31 October 1998)

Annual General Meeting held Thursday 17 December 1998

1998 was again a successful and prosperous year for the Queensland Ingres User Group.

1998 Management Committee Initiatives

1998 has seen a consolidation of the efforts of the Management Committee to improve and evolve the service to you our members. These initiatives include the maintenance of the QIUG web site (www.ozemail.com.au/~ingresug/qld). Features of this web site include:
  • Full details of Management Committee members
  • Our constitution in full
  • Diary of Events including an ability to RSVP on-line
  • Membership information including an ability to apply for membership
  • Links to other web sites of interest
The Management Committee would like to thank our membership registrar, Mr Peter Morton, who is responsible for managing our membership and mailing database. The Management Committee recognises that the membership register is a vital resource for the user group and as such we are committed to improving the processes surrounding its administration and maintenance.

Membership

Membership for 1998 included 12 corporate memberships (each entitled to 10 voting rights) plus 10 individual members. Fees for 1998 remain unchanged from the previous year at $200 for corporate and $20 for individual. Our overall membership is consistent with last years figures.

Meetings

1998 saw five meetings excluding the annual general meeting. Average attendance at these meetings was approximately 30 people with the overall quality of presentations continuing to rate very highly. Presentations during 1998 included the following:
  • "Implementing Security in OpenROAD Applications" - John Kelly, Thentec Group.
  • "hahsite Software Overview" - haht Software
  • "Overview of CA's Harmony Strategy" - Sal Ciardulli, Computer Associates
  • "Opal Software Overview" - Trevor Mann, Computer Associates
  • "Overview of Scribe Enterprise Reporting Solution" - Scribe Technologies
In addition to these presentations, representatives from CA regularly kept us informed as to the latest developments within the world of Computer Associates. We met some new faces from CA's Brisbane offices including Jim Catt, the new Queensland State Manager.

Expansion of the User Group's Product Interests

With the introduction of the Harmony strategy from Computer Associates, a motion was put to a quorum of user group members that the QIUG expand its Computer Associates product interests to include all Harmony products including Ingres, Jasmine, Opal and OpenROAD. The members present passed the motion without dissent.

To this end, the first Jasmine Interest Group (JIG) meeting was held in Brisbane earlier this month with an attendance of approximately 25 people keen to hear the latest Jasmine news from CA's national product marketing manager, John Venema. JIG meetings will be held in addition to the normal QIUG general meetings.

CA-Harmony 98

This year the presidents of the state based Ingres user groups again participated in the organising of Harmony 98. This year's conference format was significantly different from that of previous year's conferences with an emphasis on lets glitz and more valuable information. The event was well organised and well attended. Credit for this success however must be attributed to the inexhaustible efforts of Prue Palmer and the rest of the Harmony team at CA.
