Queensland Ingres
User Group Inc.
2001 Annual Report
(for year ended 31 October 2001)
Annual General Meeting held Tuesday 27 November 2001 |
2001 has been another successful year for the Queensland Ingres User Group,
with the main highlight being a large increase in member presentations
at general meetings.
Membership
In 2001 the QIUG had 10 corporate memberships (comprising 113 individuals)
plus 14 individual members. After a significant increase in membership
last year, membership has remained stable in 2001. Membership fees for
2001 remained unchanged from the previous year at $200 for corporate and
$20 for individual.
General Meetings
Five general meetings were held in 2001 with an average of 32 attendees
at each meeting. The presentations covered a wide range of topics:
-
Ingres II 2.5 ICE (Chris Parker - CA)
-
Using the Crystal Reports API with OpenROAD (Robert Walter - Thentec)
-
Ingres II Upgrade from Version 6.4, a case study (Peter Fredline - DNR)
-
Ingres II Upgrade, a case study (Steiner Johansen - Consultant)
-
Comprehensive eBusiness Intelligence (Trevor Mann - CA)
-
TableMATE (Darryl Stratford - Thentec)
-
The BEA Tuxedo and Ingres (Eqbal Ahmed - DNR)
There were also a number of Tips and Tricks presentations:
-
In-memory database copy (Adilia Murabito - DNR)
-
Simple Web Interface to Database (Jeff Hill - DNR)
-
The New "Case" Expression (StJohn Kettle - DPI)
-
Converting OpenROAD to Use the Enterprise Gateway (Jim Grapsas - Thentec)
-
Outer Joins (StJohn Kettle - DPI)
Most of these presentations were delivered by QIUG members. This large
increase in contributions from members is the major highlight for 2001.
Another highlight of 2001 was John Ainsworth's Ingres Breakfast Seminar.
It was a great opportunity to hear the latest from the Ingres Product Owner
in CA. The seminar was very well attended - over 60 people including QIUG
members and others interested in Ingres. A challenge for the committee
in 2002 will be to encourage some of these non-members to join the QIUG.
I would like to thank CA and the CA presenters for their support this
year. I would also like to thank Karen Young and Mark Crompton from CA
for their support this year.
CA also sponsored refreshments after each meeting, providing the attendees
with a valuable opportunity to network with other members and with CA staff.
I would also like to thank Myra Cusacks for arranging the use of the
facilities at Health for our meetings.
Management Committee
Major achievements of the 2001 committee included:
-
New Meeting Segments - to encourage more contributions from members
the committee introduced two new segments at meetings -
-
Tips and Tricks Presentations (10-15 mins) - these are a great way for
members to share knowledge and experiences. They have proved popular with
5 presentations at the last two meetings.
-
Questions and Answer Session.
-
Mini-presentations - the committee introduced these last year. These
proved very successful in 2001 with members delivering mini-presentations
at 4 of our 5 meetings.
-
Newsletters - a number of email newsletters were published during
the year to keep members informed. The newsletters contained details of
upcoming meetings, news from CA and QIUG, technical information and links
to technical resources and a report from CA World.
The committee members also perform many other tasks to successfully run
the user group throughout the year. These tasks included organising meeting
presentations, promoting the user group, membership drives, managing the
finances, ordering food, serving drinks and so on. I would
like to thank all members of the committee for their contributions and
commitment during 2001. It is the time that they find in their busy schedules
that enables our user group to continue providing a good service to the
members.
