User Group Events 2006

The Queensland Ingres User Group Inc meets on the last Wednesday of each odd numbered month.

All are welcome, however because we are a self-funded group, non-members will be encouraged to join.

John Howell, Queensland Disability Services Queensland Government

A short presentation on the implementation and technology behind the shift2ingres open source product. This product is the winner of the CA Ômillion dollar challengeÕ and converts Oracle and DB2 databases, along with related indexes, database procedures, views, grants, sequences and triggers to Ingres R3. It also provides a JDBC driver that dynamically translates Oracle SQL to Ingres R3 SQL, so the original application can run unchanged. A number of Oracle scalar functions and data types are implemented in Ingres R3 using the Ingres Knowledge Management tool.

Bill Maimone - Senior Vice President of Worldwide Engineering

Mr. Maimone leads IngresÔ worldwide engineering team in architecting and delivering the next generation of open source database solutions.

Mr. Maimone brings 20 years of Oracle database architecture management to Ingres. Most recently, Mr. Maimone served as a vice president in OracleÔs Server Technologies division with responsibility for its collaboration software, including content services and records management.  

For more than 10 years, he led OracleÔs innovation in data security, including pioneering technology developments and advances within the U.S. and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) security bodies. While at Oracle, Mr. Maimone also managed worldwide, cross-functional groups of developers working on identity management, SQL language and runtime services, directory services, globalization, query optimization, and data dictionary.

David Tondreau  - Architect, OpenRoad

David Tondreau is a software architect, entrepreneur and manager with over 20 years of experience in relational database and application development technologies - 18 of those years in and around Ingres and OpenRoad. 

At Ingres Corp., Mr. Tondreau is the primary architect responsible for visual tools development.  He led the recent overhaul of the OpenRoad Workbench, Ingres' integrated development environment for 4GL applications.

Prior to Ingres, Mr. Tondreau was Vice-President of Development at CA where he managed the development of the IDE and transformation tools.  He later served as the Director of Product Management for Ingres.  Earlier in his career, Mr. Tondreau founded two software technology firms.

Update from INGRES Corporation

Upgrading from OpenIngres 2.0 to Open Source Ingres r3

The Queensland Department of Emergency Services upgraded their INGRES applications from OpenIngres 2.0 to the Open Source INGRES release 3. John related his experiences and discoveries during this process.

The Datallegro Data Warehouse Appliance

John Howell, Queensland Disability Services Queensland Government

The Data Warehousing appliances by Datallegro use INGRES in a highly scalable, parallel, shared-nothing configuration using large numbers of disks and processors.  John showed us the philosophy, technology and cost and performance advantages of these Data Warehousing appliances. Since this presentation, the Datallegro appliances have been improved. The Datallegro website can be found here.
