Queensland Ingres

The Queensland INGRES User Group Inc meets on the last Wednesday of each odd numbered month. All are welcome, however because we are a self-funded group, non-members will be encouraged to join.
Note: There is a change of Meeting time; we are to at 3.45 for 4.00pm start. This new meeting time will take effect at the AGM on the 6th December 2006.

from QIUG President, John Howell. 4:10pm Address from Colin Hunt,
of ERPTapestry. ERPTapestry is the first
Tier 1 Open Source solution with functionality comparable with SAP and
Oracle. It is written in Ingres and OpenRoad and has
been used for years by Governments, Universities and major corporations. ERPTapestry has recently
been open sourced to allow organisations to sample
and use its functionality; they may also customise
the application and/or partner with ERPTapestry. Colin showed us the capabilities of
the product including a look at the OpenRoad
workbench and explained the philosophy and advantages of open sourcing this

from QIUG President, John Howell and lucky door prize draws. 4:10pm RUBY Presentation. Ruby is a reflective, dynamic,
object-oriented programming language.
It combines syntax inspired by Perl with Smalltalk-like object
oriented features, and also shares some features with Python, Lisp, Dylan and
CLU. Mike McKeon from NR&W
told us why is a Ruby fan. He gave a basic overview of the language and a

Presentation. Icebreaker is one of the many
new and exciting products from INGRES Corporation; it combines the INGRES
database with Linux as a database software appliance with a single
maintenance stream. We viewed a pre-recorded
presentation from the INGRES Corporation web site and a discussion followed.
The presentation can be downloaded from the Ingres
Corporation VIP Archives website. 4:45pm Brief discussion on
recent INGRES developments John Howell will be telling
us about how INGRES 2006 Release 3 is better than INGRES 2006 Release 2. The

Acraman, Analyst/Programmer for Department of Natural Resources and Water. Robert Acraman gave a
particularly informative presentation on INGRES Configuration and
Performance. Robert outlined
various parts of the INGRES DBMS and the presentation answered such vexing
questions as what is the DMF Cache and what is the difference between a LogWriter and a Consistency Point. You can download the powerpoint presentation here. 4:45pm Brief discussion on

too much of his free time experimenting with Ingres
and gave a brief update on what INGRES Corporation have been up to recently,

Room We have had some very special guests this meeting,
which is why it was put forward two weeks. We had the privilege of having
Roger Burkhardt, the President and COO of INGRES coming
to address us on his world tour. Roger was recruited to INGRES Corporation
from the Accompanying him were representatives of the Ingres Corporation in Agenda: 4pm Welcome

Corporation. Roger Burkhardt
is responsible for corporate strategy, development and engineering and global
field operations including marketing, sales and support, alliance and
channels and customer programs. Mr Burkhardt also serves on the
Board of Directors of INGRES Corporation. Roger gave us an update on
INGRES and the path forward, as well as the new community web site. 4:45pm Brief discussion on
